George Forcier is The Recorder's editor. He has worked in various editing capacities, all involving the gathering of local news in Franklin County, for about 35 years. Before that he worked for several small daily newspapers in New Hampshire and Massachusetts as a reporter and an editor. He also has taught journalism at the University of Massachusetts for a quarter century and has written magazine stories for regional publications over the years. For fun he builds furniture, brews beer and bakes bread.

Jeffrey Good is executive editor of Newspapers of New England's Pioneer Valley newspaper group: the Daily Hampshire Gazette, Recorder, Amherst Bulletin and Valley Advocate. Before moving to the Valley this spring, he was editor of the Valley News, an NNE paper based in Lebanon, NH. He has two college-age children and likes to spend his spare time riding motorcycles, swimming and watching sappy movies with his wife.

Dennis Skoglund is publisher of Newspapers of New England's Pioneer Valley newspaper group: the Daily Hampshire Gazette, Recorder, Amherst Bulletin and Valley Advocate. He is the Gazette's former circulation director and was with the paper for over 25 years. In 2012, Skoglund was named vice president of Newspapers of New England’s Pioneer Valley operations. He enjoys hanging out with his four grandkids, riding his motorcycle and golf.



Justin AbelsonJustin Abelson

A native of New York state, Abelson has been with The Recorder since 1997. Along with the editorial page, he has been the Sunday night editor, responsible for putting out the Monday edition during his tenure at the paper. He has been a reporter or editor for more than 30 years working in newspapers, with stops in New York, Kansas, Connecticut, and New Hampshire before coming to Greenfield and Franklin County. Married with three kids and two dogs, Abelson earned his bachelor's degree at Hobart College in Geneva, N.Y., and a master's at the University of Kansas in Lawrence, Kan.

A graduate of the Ohio University School of Journalism, Diane Broncaccio has lived in Massachusetts since 1980 and wrote features in Boston before moving to Shelburne Falls in 1988. She has been with The Recorder for at least 25 years as a copy editor and reporter. She now covers the nine West County hilltowns: Shelburne, Buckland, Ashfield, Charlemont, Colrain, Heath, Rowe, Monroe and Hawley.

Matt studied photojournalism at Rochester Institute of Technology and graduated in May of 2014. He also studied filmmaking in New York City. Shortly after beginning an internship at the Daily Hampshire Gazette in January of 2015, he was hired at The Recorder as a staff photojournalist.

Jason Butynski has been writing for the Recorder sports department since 2006, covering high school sports and other local sports stories. He is a Greenfield native, growing up on his family's vegetable farm. Butynski graduated with a bachelor's degree in journalism from UMass in 2005. Dave CoffeyDave Coffey

Dave Coffey is the wire editor at the Recorder newspaper. He joined in 2013 after working as a writer and editor at the Berkshire Record in Great Barrington for a year and a half. He also worked as an intern correspondent at the Recorder in 2012 during his senior year at University of Massachusetts-Amherst, where he majored in journalism and minored in philosophy. Coffey worked at the Web magazine Dulwich OnView for half a year in 2011 writing arts and culture features in London as part of a work-study program, in addition to writing for the UMass Daily Collegian in all four years of college.

Richie originally comes from New Hyde Park, N.Y. He previously worked as Editor at Genesee Valley Newspapers in Penfield and Brockport, N.Y., until he came to The Recorder in 1976. He has been with the paper ever since, besides some time as the Arts Editor at the Springfield Daily News 1984-86.

Mark Durant is a 28-year veteran of The Recorder sports department. In addition to his day-to-day writing duties, he's spent over 15 years as the Friday night sports editor. He also played an integral role in creating daily high school league standings that involve area teams - something few papers in the state can claim. Much like his colleagues in sports, he's a Greenfield native and a lifelong area resident.

Anita Fritz, an award-winning reporter at The Recorder, is the new Features Editor, and also writes the Neighbors column twice a week (Tuesday and Friday). She graduated from the University of Massachusetts-Amherst as a Top Scholar in the Communications Department.

Chris Harris edits special sections for The Recorder, such as the Almanac, Summer and Fall Valley Guides, holiday and seasonal supplements and special projects publications. She also edits three niche publications distributed up and down the Pioneer Valley: Valley Kids, Going Green and Healthy Life. She also edits the Religion Page and fills in for the local and wire editors two nights a week. Harris graduated from Greenfield Community College and the University of Massachusetts and has worked at The Recorder since 2004.

Aviva Luttrell covers the town of Greenfield. She is a 2015 graduate of UMass Amherst where she studied Journalism and Communication. Domenic Poli is the South County reporter for The Recorder. The Quincy native is a 2009 graduate of the University of Massachusetts Amherst, where he majored in journalism and worked for The Massachusetts Daily Collegian for four years. His first job was with The Brattleboro Reformer newspaper in Brattleboro, Vt., for six and a half years, and he joined The Recorder in 2016 after a stint at WHAI 98.3/Bear Country 95.3 in Greenfield. He is a history nerd who lives in Greenfield with his wife and two cats.

David Rainville has worked for The Recorder since March 2011. He covered the north county area as well as breaking news and features, often shooting his own photos to accompany stories. In May 2015, he took a position as copy editor. A native of central Mass., Dave has enjoyed getting to know Franklin County, especially exploring the boundless outdoor activities of the area via kayak, mountain bike and his own two feet.

Rachel Rapkin is a graduate of Purdue University in Indiana and moved to New England in June 2015 to work as the Bernardston, Leyden, Northfield and Warwick reporter for The Recorder. This is her first full-time job. Rachel is also a modern dancer and choreographer on the side.

Gary is from South Deerfield attended his area high school, Frontier Regional School, and area college, UMass-Amherst. Sanderson is currently the sports editor at the Recorder and has been since 1986. He was also a sports reporter from 1979-85 and works as an outdoor columnist for the paper, penning "On The Trail" since 1980. He is a four-decade member of New England Outdoor Writers Association and Outdoor Writers Association of America. He lives with his wife, Joanne, in Greenfield.
