AMHERST — A solar project in North Amherst first proposed more than five years ago is being revived.

W.D. Cowls Inc., which owns the parcels off Montague and Pulpit Hill roads near Cherry Hill Golf Course, is working with Lodestar Energy of Avon, Connecticut, to bring the photovoltaics to the site.

Cinda Jones, president of W.D. Cowls, said in an email she is working with Jeffrey Macel, co-founder and managing director of Lodestar.

Sam Malin, project developer for Lodestar, presented the project to the Conservation Commission Wednesday as it held a hearing on a notice of intent to work within a wetlands area.

When Amherst Pulpit Hill was first pitched, in 2012, Cowls planned to lease 20 acres to Altru Energy LLC of Conshohocken, Pennsylvania, a company that Macel also founded. At the time, the project was also presented to residents at Pulpit Hill Cohousing, whose homes are near the site.

Lodestar has done projects in Massachusetts, including projects in Great Barrington, West Stockbridge and Charlton.
