UMass musicians

The “Low Brass Fest” will be presented Nov. 16 at 8 p.m. in Bowker Auditorium at the University of Massachusetts Amherst.

On the program: Music from the Horn, Trombone & Tuba/Euphonium studios, including an arrangement of Gustav Holst’s “Mars: The Bringer of War” from “The Planets.” Free. For information, call 545-0018.

∎ Nov. 17, 4 p.m.: The Graduate Woodwind Quintet will perform in the Bezanson Recital Hall at UMass.

On the program: Katherine Dolan (flute), Cassie Loges (oboe), Leslie Kahler (clarinet), Dave Bon-Keen (bassoon) and Kevin Martins (horn) perform Irving Fine’s “Partita for Wind Quintet,” Samuel Barber’s “Summer Music” and Paquito D’Rivera’s “Aires Tropicales.” Free and open to the public. ∎ Nov. 17, 8 p.m.: The UMass Chamber Choir performs at St. Johns Episcopal Church on Elm Street in Northampton. The repertoire includes selections by Pinkham, Henson, Ravel, Badings, Mozart and Matamoros, and arrangements of spirituals by Dawson, Paulsson and Hairston. The choir will be conducted by Tony Thornton. The concert is free. Donations accepted to assist in fundraising for the Chamber Choir’s upcoming tour to Munich, Salzburg, Vienna and Prague. ∎ Nov. 18, 4 p.m.: “Jazz Ensemble I Concert performs in Bowker Auditorium on the UMass campus. The repertoire includes a tribute to the music of Billy May and will be directed by Jeffrey W. Holmes. There will be a special guest appearance by Rob Zappulla (voice).
