Nancy Brose and Suzanne Parker of Amherst are pictured on the 2013 Go Red Leading Ladies of Western Mass. poster of the American Heart Association. The two are among 24 selected to be Go Red ambassadors to raise awareness of women’s heart health. The poster was unveiled at the Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield last week and Nancy was there. All the women wore red for the poster.

Sonia Nieto of Amherst and an Orchard Valley neighbor was named in the “Edu-Scholar Public Presence Ranking” by Frederick Hess of the American Enterprise Institute for Public Policy Research in Washington, D.C. She was one of 168 education scholars nationwide selected for her contribution to the national dialogue on education policy. She is retired professor emerita from the University of Massachusetts School of Education.

Registered nurse Anita Sarro of Amherst, who works at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield, was scheduled to take part in an Oncology and Ethics Roundtable at Mount Holyoke College Willits-Hallowell Conference Center in South Hadley last Friday that was to be moderated by Lynn Pasquerella, Ph.D. bioethicist and president of Mount Holyoke College. Betsy Garson Neisner of the Cancer Connection Inc. in Northampton and Dr. Lindsay Rockwell of the Cancer Care Program at Cooley Dickinson Hospital in Northampton were also set to participate, but snowstorm Nemo forced cancellation of the event. It will be rescheduled for the fall.

Ruth Hooke and Susie Lowenstein, both of Amherst, are among 15 women being recognized by the Women’s Fund of Western Mass with the “Standing on Her Shoulders” Award, an honor given to women who have taken risks and helped provide opportunities for other women. The awards will be presented March 14 at a dinner at the Mass Mutual Center in Springfield. Ruth and Susie are both members of the Amherst Club and are active in many other organizations.
