We were very lucky with last week’s storm. I lost power for 45 minutes, some North Amherst friends were out for four hours and friends in Shutesbury said they were out for 12 hours. Some of the tree limbs left hanging from last year’s snow storm came down in my yard. I will rake the leaves after they dry.
My sister who lives in Toms River, N.J., lost power for a day. I had to give her storm updates since all she had working was a telephone. There was no ice to be had in the area, she said. On the other hand, my daughter, who lives in Brooklyn, had power. But getting to work in Manhattan (after two days off) was a challenge since the subways didn’t work. Her employer arranged for a ride.

More than 90 Mr. Americas, Spidermen, witches, pirates, cowboys, ghosts, princesses, furry animals and one stunning, large, inflated, orange chicken visited my Orchard Valley neighborhood on Halloween. Some parents even got into the spirit with various outfits. It was good to see the collection and all were polite and said thank you.
