Prokofiev for puppets
The Four Story Players will present a puppet show, “Peter and the Wolf,” with music by Sergei Prokofiev, arranged for piano 4-hands and percussion, Feb. 23 at 10:30 a.m. in the Woodbury Room at Jones Library in Amherst.
The company members, Tom Knight, puppeteer, story-teller; actor Christine Olson; Meg Kelsey Wright on piano; and Russ Nieman on percussion, will present other stories as well.
Tea and tunes
Pianist Richard Moulding will perform music by Scott Joplin, Eubie Blake, Joseph Lamb, John William “Blind” Boone, and James Scott Feb. 23 at the Library Tea at Pelham Library.
Moulding, who lives in Northampton, is still living his teenage passion for bringing ragtime piano music to life. He is a student of Jeff Barnhart and a participant in Meg Kelsey Wright’s Piano Connection at the Northampton Community Music Center. The tea starts at 11 a.m., music begins at noon.
Amherst madrigal singers
The Amherst College Madrigal Singers, a student-directed a cappella group that specializes in Renaissance music, will perform Feb. 24 at 2 p.m. at the First Congregational Church at Amherst, 165 Main St. On the program: “Missa de Beata Virgine” or “Mass of the Beautiful Virgin” by the Renaissance composer Josquin Desprez (1450-1521). Music at UMass
Stephen Austin, a nationally recognized vocal pedagogue and faculty member at the University of North Texas, will presents a vocal pedagogy seminar, including master classes and sessions on caring for the voice, preparing for college auditions and more, Feb. 23 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Feb. 24 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Bezanson Recital Hall at UMass. ∎ Soprano Dana Schnitzer, a University of Massachusetts Amherst alumna, will perform Feb. 23 at 8 p.m. with Brendon Shapiro on piano at the Bezanson Recital Hall at the UMass Fine Arts Center.
On the program: music by Strauss, Poulenc, Turina, as well as Samuel Barber’s “Hermit Songs.”
