Amherst Police

* William Blau, 23, of Sharon, was arrested Tuesday at 1:32 a.m. on Meadow Street on charges of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol, failure to stay within marked lanes and operating a motor vehicle with a defective license plate light, police said.

* A 20-year-old Amherst man and a 17-year-old Amherst man will both be summoned to court on charges of possession of a class D substance, marijuana, after they were found smoking in the West Cemetery off Triangle Street Monday at 10:26 p.m., police said.

* A woman walking her puppy on Foxglove Lane Monday at 5:18 p.m. reported that two loose golden retrievers attacked her, causing lacerations to her right hand and puncture wounds to her forearm. The owner of the golden retrievers has been identified and the animal welfare officer is investigating the incident.

* A 20-year-old New Britain, Conn. man will be summoned to court on charges of being a minor in possession of alcohol and violating the town's open container bylaw after he was found with the open alcohol while walking on College street Sunday at 3:04 a.m., police said.

* A car allegedly speeding on Main Street struck the Bank of America building on South Pleasant Street Sunday at 12:11 a.m.

The driver, Voeuth Chum, 40, of Holyoke, was transported to Baystate Medical Center in Springfield for treatment, police said. The building sustained damage that included chipped concrete and a broken door to the ATM.

* Eduardo Moreno, 30, of Market Hill Road, was arrested Aug. 23 at 2:20 a.m. at a Triangle Street location on a charge of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol, police said. Moreno was found sleeping in a parked vehicle which had its engine running, police said.

* An 18-year-old Amherst man will be summoned to court on charges of operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license and speeding, following a traffic stop on South East Street Aug. 23 at 12:58 a.m., police said.

* A 27-year-old Amherst man will be summoned to court on charges of operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license and failure to stop at a red light following a traffic stop on Amity Street Aug. 22 at 8:54 p.m., police said.

* Owen S. Boss, 23, of Colonial Village, was arrested Aug. 21 at 1:42 a.m. at his home on a charge of violating the town's noise bylaw, police said

Boss was arrested after police responded again to his Colonial Village home for a complaint of loud music and yelling, police said.

* A 29-year-old Greenfield man will be summoned to court on charges of operating an unregistered motor vehicle and operating a motor vehicle with license plates to conceal his identity following a traffic stop on Sunderland Road Aug. 21 at 12:52 a.m., police said.

The man allegedly took plates from one vehicle and attached them to another, police said.

* Joseph C. Russell, 19, of Pine Street, was arrested Aug. 20 at 11:02 p.m. on West Pomeroy Lane and Farmington Road on charges of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol, operating a motor vehicle with no license in possession, operating a motor vehicle with a broken headlight, being a minor in possession of alcohol and possession of an open container of alcohol in a motor vehicle, police said.

Russell had earlier struck several mailboxes in Hadley and was expected to face charges from that town's police department of leaving the scene of a property damage accident and malicious damage, police said.

* A 22-year-old Worcester woman will be summoned to court on charges of operating an uninsured motor vehicle and operating a motor vehicle with a suspended registration following a traffic stop on West Street Aug. 20 at 11:22 a.m., police said.

* Jacob T. Young, 20, of Belchertown was arrested Aug. 19 at 1:10 a.m. on Belchertown Road on charges of operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license and operating a motor vehicle with a lights violation, police said.

* George S. Markov, 24, who provided an address as the streets of Amherst, was arrested Aug. 19 at 11:40 a.m. on College Street on an outstanding warrant from Eastern Hampshire District Court on charges of breaking and entering to commit a felony and trespassing, police said.

* Between Aug. 19 and Aug. 26, police recovered a bicycle, a bag containing running shoes, a wallet, a cell phone and a key. Police checked for speeding vehicles on East Hadley Road, West Street and Shays Street, performed well-being checks on two residents, provided an escort for one funeral and delivered mail to members of the Select Board.

Police responded to false alarms at three residences, nine businesses and the Amherst Chinese Christian Church, and checked on vehicles parked on Pine Street, University Drive, Harkness Road, Blue Hills Road, Sunderland Road, Pray Street, Kestrel Lane, Hop Brook Road, Greenleaves Drive and Pine Street and at Puffer's Pond, the high school, the Notch Visitors Center, the Boltwood parking lot and the Amherst Chinese Christian Church.

Hadley Police

* Five Rocky Hill Road residents agreed to quiet down after a noise complaint was lodged against them Monday at 12:07 a.m.

* A GPS unit was stolen from an employee's car that was broken into in an incident outside a Route 9 restaurant that was reported to police Sunday at 9:14 p.m.

* Police took a report Aug. 23 at 11:47 a.m. that between $3 and $5 was missing from a metal cash box pried open at a vegetable stand on River Drive.

* Ethan Bagg, 35, of South Hadley, was arrested Aug. 22 at 8:38 p.m. on East Street on charges of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol, operating a motor vehicle to endanger, failure to stop/yield and failure to stay within marked lanes, police said.

* Police took a dog from a Norwottuck Drive residence Aug. 22 at 2:02 p.m. that had been ordered removed from town by the Board of Selectmen. The dog was temporarily brought to the town pound.

* Jessica L. Wilson, 23, of West Suffield, Conn., was arrested Aug. 22 at 10:56 a.m. on East Street on an outstanding warrant, police said.

* A flag was reported stolen from the American Legion Post 271 on Route 9 Aug. 22 at 9:32 a.m.

* Kevin M. Steinberger, 44, of Chmura Road, was arrested Aug. 21 at 5:29 p.m. at a Hadley location on an outstanding warrant, police said.

* Wilfredo Ramirez, 27, of Russel Street, was arrested Aug. 19 at 4:41 p.m. at a Route 9 store on a charge of domestic assault and battery, police said.

* A bank check was reported stolen from a car while the vehicle was parked next to a Route 9 bank Aug. 19 at 1:14 p.m.

* A 19-inch television was reported stolen from the Target store at Hampshire Mall Aug. 18 at 1:09 p.m.

* An employee of the Pride gas station on Route 9 reported Aug. 18 at 9:29 a.m. that the window of her vehicle had been broken and her purse was stolen.

UMass Police

* A 20-year-old Franklin woman will be summoned to court on charges of unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and operating a motor vehicle with no inspection sticker following a traffic stop on Fearing Street Sunday at 4:24 p.m., police said.

* Sergey E. Panchenko, 25, of West Springfield, was arrested Aug. 22 at 1:26 p.m. on Massachusetts Avenue on charges of operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license, failure to stay within marked lanes, failure to obey turn lane markings, refusing to identify himself as the operator of the motor vehicle and intimidating a witness, police said.

* A 28-year-old Sunderland woman will be summoned to court on charges of operating a motor vehicle with a suspended registration, operating an unregistered motor vehicle and operating a motor vehicle with no inspection sticker, following a traffic stop on Campus Center Way Aug. 21 at 8:35 a.m., police said.

* Jesse Morin, 27, of Haydenville, was arrested Aug. 20 at 12:31 p.m. on Commonwealth Avenue on charges of operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license and operating a motor vehicle with no inspection sticker, police said.

* A 21-year-old Silver Spring, Md. woman will be summoned to court on charges of unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and failure to stop at a stop sign, following a traffic stop on Massachusetts Avenue Aug. 19 at 5:48 p.m., police said.

* Dennis P. Powers, 50, of West Springfield, was arrested Aug. 19 at 4:37 p.m. at a campus location on a charge of seeking sexual conduct for a fee, police said.

* Eli A. Berman, 19, of Tuckerman Lane, Amherst, was arrested Aug. 18 at 1:24 p.m. at the police station on a charge of possession of a class D substance, marijuana, subsequent offense, and on an outstanding warrant, police said.

* Angel L. Oquendo, 35, of Springfield, was arrested Aug. 16 at 6:47 p.m. on University Drive on a charge of operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license, subsequent offense, police said.

* A 38-year-old Belchertown man will be summoned to court on charges of operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license, subsequent offense, and speeding, following a traffic stop on Massachusetts Avenue Aug. 16 at 11:04 a.m., police said.

TUESDAY, AUG. 19

SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY

* 12:10 a.m. - A homeless man with an open bottle of vodka on North Pleasant Street agreed to dispose of the alcohol. Two other homeless men were also issued warnings for having open containers of beer.

* 12:47 a.m. - Police located a man sleeping on the porch of a north Pleasant Street business. He was advised of options for finding a shelter and sent on his way.

* 2:47 a.m. - A woman was heard screaming at The Boulders, but no one in distress was located there.

* 5:13 p.m. - A man selling magazines door-to-door on Old Farm Road became angry when a resident questioned his right to solicit. Police located the man a short time late and warned him and his colleagues to get proper permits for soliciting. At 7:54 p.m., a Summerfield Road resident expressed concern about another man who made strange comments about purchasing a bottle of water while also going door-to-door with items for sale.

* 10:41 p.m. - Four teenagers fled from the area of North Pleasant Street after throwing eggs at passing vehicles. One vehicle had been hit by the eggs before the youths left.

DISTURBANCES

* 11:19 a.m. - Police kept the peace between a husband and wife arguing over use of the remote control for the television.

VANDALISM

* 5:40 p.m. - Graffiti was found spray-painted near a crosswalk on Wildflower Drive.

ANIMAL COMPLAINTS

* 3:23 a.m. - A possum that got into a State Street home was removed by police.

MOTOR VEHICLE ACCIDENTS

* 11:11 a.m. - A vehicle parked in the Boltwood lot sustained minor damage to its bumper when it was struck the previous day, police said.

* 2:13 p.m. and 6:35 p.m. - Minor two-car accidents with no personal injuries took place at the corner of Meadow Street and the Route 116 bypass and in the parking lot of Riverside Park Shopping Plaza, police said.

TRAFFIC

* 1:51 a.m. - A vehicle that failed to stay within marked lanes was stopped on Main Street. The driver was issued warnings for failure to stay within marked lanes and operating a motor vehicle with no license in possession.

* 5:14 p.m. - Police were asked to monitor the corner of Lincoln Avenue and Fearing Street because of a heavy volume of traffic related to the closing of North Pleasant Street for paving.

* 8:08 p.m. - The railroad company was contacted after the railroad lights were found malfunctioning on High Street.

* 8:43 p.m. - Motorcycles parked illegally on North Pleasant Street were moved before being issued tickets.

* 9:47 p.m. - A vehicle that failed to stop for a stop sign on Boltwood Avenue was pulled over and its driver was issued a warning.

ADDITIONAL ACTIVITY

* 12:45 a.m. - Police assisted firefighters in shutting off water to a Webster Court home in which water was filling up the basement.

WEDNESDAY, AUG. 20

SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY

* 12:51 p.m. - A Sand Hill Road resident reported waking up to find the front door open. Police are investigating whether a break-in occurred. The resident said nothing appeared to be missing from the home.

* 1:50 p.m. - Two college-age people shooting pellet guns at birds in the area of Fearing Street were warned to stop the activity and not use their BB guns near homes.

* 8:30 p.m. - A man eating a meal and reading a newspaper inside an ATM on North Pleasant Street was removed and sent on his way.

* 10:46 p.m. - Unsecured vehicles parked at a College Street location checked out OK.

CITIZEN ASSISTANCE

* 12:01 p.m. - Police spoke to a man who was trying to get items back from his ex-wife at a North Amherst apartment.

* 10:58 p.m. - Employees at the Dunkin' Donuts on University Drive were escorted to their vehicles after concerns about a van in the parking lot. The van checked out OK.

VANDALISM

* 12:33 a.m. - A small amount of chocolate syrup was poured on three vehicles parked on Rolling Green Drive.

* 10:05 a.m. - An Amity Street resident reported all four tires on his convertible were slashed, the soft top was cut and the bumper was damaged, in an incident that occurred overnight. Damage was estimated at more than $3,000, police said.

BREAK-INS

* 12:37 a.m. - Passenger-side windows were damaged and a cell phone valued at $250 was stolen from a vehicle parked at a West Street business The incident occurred sometime after 10 p.m. the previous day.

* 1:26 p.m. - A Brandywine Apartments resident who was gone for a week reported his CD player was stolen from his vehicle, which had been left unlocked.

NOISE COMPLAINTS

* 4:33 p.m. - Youths screaming and rummaging through trash at Village Park were sent on their way.

* 10:48 p.m. - Police issued a verbal warning to Phillips Street residents playing loud music.

TRAFFIC

* 1:28 a.m. - A vehicle with a defective headlight was stopped on East Pleasant Street near Triangle Street.. The driver was issued a warning,

* 2:07 a.m. - Police issued a written warning to the driver of a vehicle that failed to stay within marked lanes on College Street.

* 7 p.m. - A cable wire hanging from a tree on Pine Street near Harris Street was reported to police. Comcast was notified.

THURSDAY, AUG. 21

SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY

* 4:18 a.m. - Four drunken people were found hiding inside The Spoke more than three hours after the bar had closed for the night. Police are investigating the incident and whether any violation occurred.

* 10:25 p.m. - A man who urinated in front of the post office on North Pleasant Street was issued a verbal warning.

CITIZEN ASSISTANCE

* 5:08 p.m. - An Amherst woman with mental health issues told police she didn't feel respected by officers during responses to her home.

LARCENY

* 12:29 p.m. - Two people who attempted to steal $5.50 worth of items from Big Y Supermarket were caught and returned the items. Both were issued trespass notices from the store.

* 4:30 p.m. - A catalytic converter was reported stolen from a vehicle in North Amherst. Police are unsure when the theft occurred or whether it took place in Amherst. The following day at 12:43 p.m. The owner of the vehicle came to the police station to report the same theft.

VANDALISM

* 12:36 p.m. - A Sunset Avenue resident reported vandalism to the vehicle.

NOISE COMPLAINTS

* 2:50 a.m. - Police issued a verbal warning to The Boulders residents playing a loud stereo.

ANIMAL COMPLAINTS

* 10:15 a.m. - A dog at The Boulders that bit a child was placed into quarantine for 10 days. The dog was also ordered to be muzzled and leashed at all times, and the owner was advised to neuter the dog, have it go to training classes to be better socialized and to pay any bills associated with the child's injury. The owner said she will soon be moving to Northampton.

* 11:16 a.m. - A Webster Court resident was issued a verbal warning for letting her dog run loose in others' yards and was told she has 10 days to register her dog in town.

8:46 p.m. - Police assisted a Morgan Circle resident with a bat inside the home.

MOTOR VEHICLE ACCIDENTS

* 8 a.m. - Khalea S. Glasgow, 16, of Farview Way, was issued a citation for failure to use care in turning after the vehicle she was driving from Old Town Road onto North Pleasant Street collided with a vehicle driven by Anthony Paul, 20, of Puffton Village, police said.

Glasgow, Paul and Kenisha Jackson, 22, of Fearing Street, and a passenger in Paul's vehicle, were all transported by Amherst Fire Department ambulance to Cooley Dickinson Hospital in Northampton, where they were treated and released, according to a hospital spokeswoman.

Both vehicles sustained extensive damage and had to be towed from the scene, according to police.

TRAFFIC

* 12:23 a.m. - Police stopped a vehicle with a defective taillight on College Street and issued the driver a warning.

* 1:10 a.m. - Police issued a warning to the driver of a vehicle with a defective headlight stopped on Triangle Street.

* 10:02 a.m. - The railroad company was notified about railroad crossing lights flashing on High Street despite no train coming.

* 11:10 a.m. - A vehicle that went through two stop signs in the area of South East Street was found parked on Blue Hills Road. Police spoke to the woman, who said she was British and wasn't accustomed to the rules of the road in the United States. She was given a warning.

* 8:30 p.m. - An erratic vehicle on Belchertown Road was driving properly when police saw it.

ADDITIONAL ACTIVITY

* 5:21 a.m. - Amherst police assisted Hartford Conn. police in searching for a man whose car was left in their city.

* 7:36 p.m. - Amherst police assisted Pelham police in making an arrest in a domestic incident on Amherst Road in their town.

FRIDAY, AUG. 22

SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY

* 11:36 p.m. - Police took a report of a woman attempting to hitch-hike from the area of Riverside Park Shopping Plaza.

CITIZEN ASSISTANCE

* 12:39 p.m. - A towing company was contacted to open a vehicle parked on University Drive that had two small children locked inside it. The children were fine.

* 3:48 p.m. - Police spoke to an Amherst woman upset about not receiving items she had bought online.

* 4:08 p.m. - A woman living at The Boulders told police her baby was taken out of state by his father. The baby will be returned to her on Monday when the father returns from Pennsylvania.

* 11:23 p.m. - Police helped a boy return to Echo Village Apartments after he visited a friend whose mother was concerned about going to the boy's home, where she had earlier gotten into an argument with his mother.

DISTURBANCES

* 3:35 p.m. - A former employee at the high school was in the parking lot making threats against the principal. Police are investigating the incident.

* 5:06 p.m. - Police assisted in removing a youth from a PVTA bus at The Boulders. The boy was using foul language and took off his shirt while riding

LARCENY

* 12:17 p.m. - Three business checks were stolen from Arigato and two were later cashed. Police are investigating.

VANDALISM

* 10:08 a.m. - A vehicle parked near the First Baptist Church on North Pleasant Street was damaged when someone scratched it with a key.

NOISE COMPLAINTS

* 6:12 p.m. - Police issued a verbal warning to a man working on a dirt bike on Eames Place. At 7:08 p.m., police returned to the location and warned two men to stop riding the bikes for the night.

* 9:24 p.m. - A verbal warning was issued by police to Harlow Drive residents playing loud music.

* 9:37 p.m. - A man playing bongo drums outside the Lord Jeffery Inn agreed to stop the activity for the night.

ANIMAL COMPLAINTS

* 9:31 a.m. - A possum sleeping in the middle of North Pleasant Street was moved by police.

* 6:05 p.m. - A dog in distress inside a vehicle on Boltwood Avenue was not located by police.

MOTOR VEHICLE ACCIDENTS

* 9:30 a.m. and 10:21 a.m. - Minor two-car accidents with no personal injuries took place in the parking lot at Atkins Farms Country Market, police said.

TRAFFIC

* 11:29 a.m. - A vehicle blocking a lane of traffic on Pine Street was gone when police got there.

* 6:10 p.m. - Police stopped a vehicle that was traveling with a flat tire and a rim that was sparking when coming in contact with the pavement. The driver was brought to Cooley Dickinson Hospital in Northampton for a medical evaluation after she was determined to be disoriented and was unsure why her vehicle had been stopped.

SATURDAY, AUG. 23

SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY

* 1:11 p.m. - A suspicious man loitering at Puffer's Pond, looking into vehicles and approaching people, was located by police. He told police he was only at Puffer's to swim.

CITIZEN ASSISTANCE

* 12:48 p.m. - An Amherst woman called police to report she is concerned about the age difference between her sister-in-law and the sister-in-law's boyfriend.

* 3:12 p.m. - Police are assisting a North Hadley Road man locate the laptop he lent to a friend in June.

* 4:53 p.m. - A 5-year-old boy who appeared to be left alone at the corner of Amity Street and Amity Place was not located by police. Police determined the boy had already been picked up.

* 8:01 p.m. - A girl missing from Mill Valley Estates since the previous day returned home safely.

* 11:01 p.m. - Police issued a trespass notice to a man loitering in a downtown restaurant.

DISTURBANCES

* 12:02 p.m. - Police kept the peace between two men arguing near a U-Haul trailer parked on North Pleasant Street,

* 3:06 p.m. - Two people arguing at a North Pleasant Street Apartments home were not located by police.

NOISE COMPLAINTS

* 7:41 p.m. - East Pleasant Street residents hosting a live band agreed to quiet down for the night. At 8:40 p.m., police responded to the location for a second time and issued the residents a verbal warning for being loud.

* 11 p.m. - A verbal warning was issued by police to Puffton Village residents playing a loud stereo.

MOTOR VEHICLE ACCIDENTS

* 5:43 p.m. - A vehicle sustained minor damage when it was struck by a second vehicle while parked at Brandywine Apartments, police said.

TRAFFIC

* 5:23 p.m. - Police issued a ticket to a vehicle blocking a bike lane on North Pleasant Street near the downtown bars.

* 9:17 p.m. - A teenage girl operating a motor vehicle with only a learner's permit was stopped on College Street and issued a citation for operating without headlights and unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, The owner of the car was also issued a citation for allowing it.

* 10:46 p.m. - A citation was issued to the driver of a vehicle who parked the vehicle outside of marked spaces on North Pleasant Street.

* 11:06 p.m. - Railroad crossing lights were reported malfunctioning on High Street. The railroad was notified.

SUNDAY, AUG. 24

SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY

* 3:52 p.m. - A lock box for keys at a College Street business was found open. Police took the keys to the station for safe keeping.

CITIZEN ASSISTANCE

* 6:33 p.m. - Police assisted a woman in her attempt to retrieve her belongings from a Potwine Lane home where the landlord had set up a tag sale to dispose of them.

* 10:27 p.m. - An Echo Village Apartments woman reported receiving annoying phone calls from a woman whom she had previously threatened.

* 10:50 p.m. - Police got a report from a Southpoint Apartments woman who said she got threatening phone calls from a teenage girl with whom she has had previous fights.

DISTURBANCES

* 7:12 a.m. - Police kept the peace between a woman and a man who refused to leave her Mill Hollow Apartments home.

* 11:38 p.m. - A woman arguing with her mother at a Maplewood Circle home left for the night.

NOISE COMPLAINTS

* 12:20 a.m. - People shooting off fireworks in the area of Pine Street and Sand Hill Road were not located by police. At 1:16 a.m., police issued a verbal warning to people yelling at the same location.

ANIMAL COMPLAINTS

* 1:48 a.m.. - Two barking dogs on Shays Street were reported to police. The homeowners were not found.

MOTOR VEHICLE ACCIDENTS

* 11:09 a.m. - Anita M. Pelis, 61, of Bull Hill Road, Leverett, was issued a citation for failure to use care in stopping after the vehicle she was driving on Montague Road rearended a vehicle stopped for a pedestrian in a crosswalk driven by Pamela L. Linscott, 49, of Turners Falls, police said.

Both vehicles had to be towed, but no personal injuries were reported, according to police.

TRAFFIC

* 12:16 a.m. - Police issued a ticket to one vehicle parked illegally on Phillips Street. People with open containers of alcohol were not located by police.

* 9:38 p.m. - A vehicle with a defective brake light was stopped on South East Street and the driver was issued a verbal warning.

MONDAY, AUG. 25

SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY

* 12:26 a.m. - Police issued a verbal warning to youths burning T-shirts at Village Park.

* 10:22 p.m. - Amherst College students allegedly soliciting alcohol from people on Main Street were sent on their way.

* 11:20 p.m. - The source of gun shots heard at The Brook was not located by police.

CITIZEN ASSISTANCE

* 4:29 p.m. - Police assisted a Southpoint Apartments woman whose young daughter was out of control and throwing things at her. The girl agreed to behave for the rest of the day after officers spoke with her.

DISTURBANCES

* 1:25 a.m. - A man banging on the door to a Mill Valley Estates home who was the father of a boy living at the residence was advised to return at a later time.

LARCENY

* 9:26 p.m. - A Puffton Village woman reported that someone used her credit card to purchase more than $250 worth of goods and services without her authorization.

BREAK-INS

* 3:34 a.m. - The glass was pushed in on a door at the DB Mart on Triangle Street, but no entry was gained.

NOISE COMPLAINTS

* 12:22 a.m. - Police issued a verbal warning to people talking loudly at Mill Hollow Apartments.

ANIMAL COMPLAINTS

* 1:59 p.m. - A beagle that ran across Northampton Road and was nearly struck by passing vehicles was not located by police.

* 4:51 p.m. - A rabid raccoon on North Pleasant Street was not found by police.

MOTOR VEHICLE ACCIDENTS

* 9:42 a.m. And 4:26 p.m. - Minor two-car accidents with no personal injuries occurred on College Street and East Pleasant Street, police said.
