Club to distribute Love Notes money to area beneficiaries
Published on March 26, 2010
Love Notes, the Amherst Club's annual community benefit, held at Amherst College's Buckley Recital Hall on Valentine's Day, raised $14,650 for local human service agencies.
Checks ranging from $750 to $2,000 will be distributed to 11 organizations whose applications were selected from 20 groups seeking financial assistance for specific projects. Representatives of each organization will receive their checks at a luncheon meeting of the Amherst Club at Hickory Ridge today.
Since its founding in 1983, the Amherst Club has raised more than $295,000 for area charities. Money raised by Love Notes 2010 will help support: Amherst Housing Authority's Wellness Program, Amherst Survival Center's Toy Drive, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Hampshire County's Family Gatherings, Dakin Pioneer Valley Humane Society's Pet Food Aid Program, Food Bank of Western Massachusetts' Brown Bag Food for Elders, Greenfield Community College Foundation's Transitions Program, Hampshire Health Connect's Care for the Uninsured, Jones Library ESL Center's Recruitment of Volunteers, Safe Passage's Volunteer Coordinator, The Literacy Project's Adult Program, and Tapestry Health's Mobile Health Van.
State Rep. Ellen Story, who hosted Love Notes with state Sen. Stan Rosenberg, refers to the event as being symbolic of the spirit and dedication of Amherst residents.
