Statistics about A Better Chance

Here are the numbers on A Better Chance:

  • A Better Chance has placed more than 11,000 middle and junior high school students in public and private college preparatory schools throughout the country since the program began in 1964.

  • More than 99 percent of ABC graduating seniors immediately enroll in college.

  • One-third of ABC scholars come from families who receive welfare or live at or below the federal poverty line.

  • Sixty-five percent of ABC scholars come from single-parent families.

  • The 236 member schools of the ABC program are distributed among 27 states.

  • Out of 2,920 ABC applicants for the 2002-2003 school year, only 420 were accepted.
