Calling all picklers for annual contest

The Pocumtuck Valley Association invites Valley picklers to save a batch of their best for the Second Annual Pickle Contest at the Eastern European Festival coming up Sept. 30 in Old Deerfield. The festival celebrates the culture and traditions brought to the Valley from Eastern Europe.

Pickles of all sorts are eligible for entry, from bread and butter to refrigerator and dill. Relishes, chutneys and pickled foods, including rinds, fruits and eggs, will all have their own categories.

The festival is also seeking pickle recipes to be included in a recipe book, which will be compiled by the historical society. For more information about the festival, contest or recipe book, call (413) 774-7476.
