Help raise the Puerto Rican flag

The Puerto Rican Association of Amherst will host its 11th annual raising of the Flag of the U.S. Commonwealth of Puerto Rico Nov. 1 at 1 p.m. at the flagpole directly in front of the Amherst Town Hall.

There will be a reception from noon until 1 p.m. in the Town Room, Town Hall.

The theme of this year's celebration is "Boricuas ... We Count We Vote." Featured speaker at the reception will be Nelson Acosta, former director of the ALANA Students Affairs Office at the University of Massachusetts. The event is free and open to the public.

In accordance with a 1989 proclamation signed by former Massachusetts Gov. Michael Dukakis, Nov. 19, will be "Puerto Rico Day in Massachusetts."
