It's happened once again - spring. The green shoots of daffodils, day lilies and primrose are up. I think some daffodils will be in bloom by the time the paper comes out. I have had to rake leaves from the lawn since the snow fell before I could finish the task last fall. I hung our laundry for the first time this year. That's always a good sign. We have over 12 hours of daylight now.

Lisa Trahan reports that author Michael White spoke on research for fiction writing at the annual meeting of the local chapter of the National Writer's Union. He's familiar to the areas since he wrote "The Garden of Martyrs" about the hanging of two Irish men in Northampton, which was a community read choice. His other books include "The Soul Catcher," "Dream of Wolves" and "Blind Side of the Heart."

Jarrad Green, the son of Laura and Richard Green, of West Pomeroy Lane in Amherst, achieved high honors at the Williston Northampton School in Easthampton, where he is a sophomore. He will perform in the Pioneer Art Center of Easthampton's production of "West Side Story" at the Academy of Music April 23 through April 27. I'm surprised there is no protest about the production.
