2:36 p.m. – A resident reported a scam in which someone placed an advertisement on Craigslist for a vacant room she rents, even though the room still has a tenant.
DISTURBANCES
9:22 p.m. – Police kept the peace between people arguing at Colonial Village.
NOISE COMPLAINTS
10:33 a.m. – Summer Street residents came to the police station to complain about college students moving into their neighborhood and being noisy throughout the weekend. Officers advised the residents to file complaints when loud music is playing and loud parties are happening.
ANIMAL COMPLAINTS
2:22 a.m. – Six sheep loose on Van Meter Drive belonged to the agricultural center at UMass. The sheep were brought back to where they are being kept by UMass officials.
1:55 p.m. – The animal welfare officer is investigating a dog bite that occurred in town and was reported to a veterinarian.
TUESDAY, JULY 17 SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY
4:46 a.m. – A person reported hearing a clanging-type sound in the area of Palley Village Place and Research Drive. Officers determined all was quiet there, and the person reporting the strange noise later told police the sound may have been part of a dream.
8:19 a.m. – Police took a report about a woman using a dating app to meet men at Amherst locations and offer them sexual favors. Police are investigating to determine if the complaint is legitimate.
7:40 p.m. – Three teenagers looking into windows of an apartment on Hobart Lane were not found by police, and there was no evidence of any break-in.

9:23 p.m. – Police issued a verbal warning to members of a band practicing at a Grantwood Drive home.

ACCIDENTS
8:06 a.m. – A vehicle and a scooter collided on Bay Road, police said. The crash, which may have caused an injury, is still under investigation, according to police.
8:36 a.m. – One driver was issued a citation for failure to use care in turning following a two-car accident with no personal injuries at the intersection of North Pleasant Street and Massachusetts Avenue, police said.

12:26 p.m. – Police stopped a vehicle on North Pleasant Street whose driver intentionally drove into puddles to splash pedestrians. Officers determined the driver is a colleague of those hit by the water and no one was complaining about this action.
WEDNESDAY, JULY 18 SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY
1:08 a.m. – Police responded to a Shumway Street home where a resident was concerned an intruder might be in the dwelling. The home checked out OK.
LARCENY
1:02 p.m. – A woman who attempted to steal a shopping cart full of items from Big Y Supermarket on University Drive abandoned the carriage and fled. Police are investigating the incident.
VANDALISM
8:55 a.m. – A mailbox at a Bay Road home was damaged by vandals.

7:27 p.m. – Amherst Police assisted Hadley Police in searching for a speeding motorcycle on Montague Road.
THURSDAY, JULY 19 SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY
9:24 a.m. – Three homeless people loitering outside a Boltwood Walk building were sent on their way.

9:36 p.m. – Police responded to a University Drive store where a customer created a scene when he accused an employee of being racially profiled. Officers spoke to the man, who was upset but told them he would calm down before spending the night in the nearby woods.
LARCENY
7:37 p.m. – The front license plate was reported stolen from a vehicle parked on Harkness Road.
TRAFFIC
2:07 p.m. – Police stopped an allegedly erratic driver beeping the vehicle’s horn on Amity Street. The driver told police that he was using the horn to express his displeasure with another driver’s behavior.
FRIDAY, JULY 20 SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY
5:50 p.m. – A man loitering on Boltwood Walk who made threats toward a person was not located.
9:36 p.m. – Police responded to the high school parking lot where minors were found in possession of alcohol.
10:49 p.m. – Police warned two people walking on North Pleasant Street near Kellogg Avenue with open beer containers.

2:32 p.m. – An argument between two men at a bus stop on University Drive ended before police got there. Officers determined that a man who got onto a bus was upset at the other man for the type of music he was listening to on his cellphone.

11:21 p.m. – Police issued a verbal warning to Alpha Delta Phi residents holding a loud party at the North Pleasant Street location.
SATURDAY, JULY 21 SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY
1:24 a.m. – People in a vehicle parked at Groff Park were advised the site closes at dark.
5:03 p.m. – A man resting on the grass outside a downtown church left before police got there.
ASSAULTS
3:18 p.m. – A man told police he suffered injuries to his nose and other parts of his face after he was struck by a full bottle of beer tossed from a vehicle on North Pleasant Street near Hobart Lane. Police are investigating.
NOISE COMPLAINTS
8:50 p.m. – Police issued a verbal warning to people holding a party with a DJ at Mill River Recreation Area. More than 100 people were sent on their way and advised to remove garbage from the site. At 10:06 p.m., officers returned to the site and found a signifcant amount of trash, discarded food, including chicken bones, and full containers of alcohol remaining from the party.
9:14 p.m. – A verbal warning was issued by police to a wedding party gathered at a Middle Street location. The residents of the home agreed to end the celebration within two hours. At 11:58 p.m., police went back to the location for a report of loud voices, determining that people were just cleaning the yard.
11:55 p.m. – South Prospect Street residents were issued a verbal warning for holding a loud party.
MOTOR VEHICLE
ACCIDENTS
3:40 p.m. – A vehicle went over the curb and struck bushes outside a Greenleaves Drive building, police said. The building was not damaged in the crash, according to police.
SUNDAY, JULY 22 SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY
7:08 p.m. – A woman looking in vehicles parked at Riverside Park Apartments told police she is homeless and was wandering the grounds looking for cigarettes tossed on the ground. She was sent on her way.
LARCENY
12:17 a.m. – More than 20 college-age people walking on Main Street with a stop sign removed from Gray Street were located, but the sign was discarded. After officers explained the potential danger to drivers for stealing a stop sign, two of the people told police the sign was in bushes behind a home.
ANIMAL COMPLAINTS
5:48 p.m. – Two pigs wandering in the middle of South East Street were captured by their owner and returned to a nearby farm.
