Praises Mindy Domb for constituent servicesI am both appreciative and in awe of Mindy Domb’s commitment to working tirelessly on our behalf to elect more women to statewide offices by providing leadership on Elizabeth Warren’s and Maura Healey’s first campaigns, and her extraordinary efforts and management skills in working toward closing the food insecurity gap in our region in her role as the executive director of the Amherst Survival Center.
If you examine Domb’s record of compassion, knowledge and leadership on delivering critical resources to our most vulnerable and struggling citizens, you will see she is providing exactly what we expect of our state representative — it’s called constituent service.
Presently, in western Massachusetts we only have one female Democratic legislator to amplify the voices of women in our region — Rep. Tricia Farley-Bouvier of Pittsfield. If we stretch our borders to incorporate the towns of North Quabbin and eastern Hampshire and Hampden counties, we can also claim Sen. Anne Gobi. Women are not even close to having equal representation.
The Massachusetts Women’s Political Caucus reports that 26 percent of Massachusetts state legislators are women. This translates into a total of 51 women legislators for the entire state. We almost fell below 26 percent when Ellen Story retired in 2016 and the passing of Rep. Gailanne Cariddi in 2017.
When I look at this data for western Massachusetts, the state and across the nation, and then compare the day-to-day work and life experiences of the Democratic candidates running to be our next representative of the 3rd Hampshire District, the choice is obvious.
Mindy Domb is the most qualified. Please join me in voting for her on Sept. 4.
