SUNDERLAND — An apparent single-car crash on Reservation Road in Sunderland has taken the life of a Deerfield man reported missing on Feb. 1.

The missing man was identified in a Deerfield Police Facebook posting as Stanley Boron.

“Our deepest sympathy goes out to the Boron family,” Deerfield Police posted Feb. 2.

According to the Northwestern district attorney’s office, the crashed vehicle and deceased driver were discovered by a passerby before 8 a.m. Feb. 2.

“He is believed to have been the subject of a search for a missing Deerfield man by area police,” according to a statement by the district attorney’s office. “The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will confirm the identity of the deceased and determine the cause of his death.”

On Feb. 1, in a Facebook post shared by several hundred people, Deerfield Police wrote that Boron had left his home, driving his 1998 Jeep Cherokee, and was on his way to Greenfield.

“He normally goes into the woods to check his hunting spots,” the post continued. “Mr. Boron has not been located and officers are looking for him. If you see Mr. Boron, please call us ...”

Sunderland Police Chief Erik Demetropoulos said the incident was first reported as a “Jeep off the roadway, possibly involved in a rollover crash.”

The crash is being investigated by Sunderland Police, the Massachusetts State Police assigned to the Northwestern district attorney’s office and the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Center.
