HADLEY — Whether sponsoring candidates nights and community recycling events or raising money to support school field trips and helping families in need, members of the Hadley Mothers’ Club are regularly involved in the community.

On Sunday, current and past club members will gather at the parish hall at Most Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, 120 Russell St., for an afternoon tea that will honor its 75 years of being a charitable community institution.

Denise Devine, president of the organization, said more than 260 women who have been part of the club have been invited and over 60 are committed to attending the celebration.

The club began in 1945 when Hadley women who hoped to establish a kindergarten class organized the group.

Since that time, the club has grown and evolved into a charitable organization, putting on the Hadley Holiday Fair where vendors sell their wares before the holidays, and providing assistance to the local troops for the Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts and young athletes competing in state events. The club also sponsors self-defense training through the Rape Aggression Defense program and offers food and holiday gift collections and distributions to families in need.

The club has fully funded the messaging system at the schools, three scholarships for graduating seniors and purchased recorders for third-grade students.

The afternoon tea aims to pay tribute to all women who have been involved with the club’s activities.

, with current participants doing an extensive search to locate as many former members as possible, through membership lists and town records, and then sending out formal invitations and requesting they attend.

Anyone who attends is encouraged to bring photographs and memorabilia, and those with digital photos can send them by email in advance for use in a slideshow.
