Joan Hanson: Amherst Club lends a hand to community

Wednesday, April 01, 2020

The Amherst Club has found just how far a helping hand extends in these times.

First, we have recently been able to donate from our fundraising and Endowment Fund $1,000 to the Survival Center, $600 to All Out Adventures and $400 to the Amherst Senior Center.

Second, our members’ dues basically pay for our luncheons for 22 people, held twice a month at Bistro 63 in Amherst. Our meetings are now cancelled for a while, a large loss to the restaurant.

Holding to our mission of benefiting our local community, our board of directors wanted to help the restaurant in some way. We decided to pay Bistro 63 for three missed meetings because we are treated very well and enjoy the space and food they provide for us.

Rasif at Bistro 63 has replied that they “have been providing meals for their staff during this time and just started a Shift Meal Project that will provide meals twice a week to the service industry workers who are affected by the shutdown.”

Our Amherst Club contribution will go toward keeping the restaurant and those programs running.
