Good news of sort: Massachusetts residents don’t have to file state and federal income taxes until April 17. We have a state holiday Monday, Patriot’s Day. Washington, D.C. has a holiday Tuesday.

Bruce Penniman of Amherst sent an email thanking those who purchased dinners to benefit The Sene-Gambian Scholars Program. He is looking for a host, “for two charming men who will be chaperoning students during their upcoming exchange visit, April 22 - May 3. The ideal location would be within walking distance or bus access of the high school. Mary Shaughan of Amherst sent an email about her daughter, Kelley Knight, who was honored at a recent breakfast at the Log Cabin by the Children’s Advocacy Center of Hampshire County. “Kelley is the outreach social worker for the Northampton schools and was honored for her work with children, particularly those in crisis. Dr. Ray Conway, who is or was head of the ER at Cooley Dickinson won the other award,” according to the email.

Henia “Henny” Lewin of Amherst will receive the first Oyneg Shabbes Award for Holocaust Education from Congregation B’Nai Israel in Northampton May 2 at 7 p.m. All are welcome to attend.

She is a child survivor of the Kovnov Ghetto. According to the email from Rabbi Justin David, she is a distinguished and award-winning Jewish educator, who has shared her story to countless groups, including recently live performances on the Moth.

She said she spoke to 180 eighth-graders in Hull, will speak at Springfield College April 28, then go on to Halifax, Duxbury, Stowe, Burlington, etc.

Her message to students is, “not to be a bystander, to get involved, not allow evil to prevail.”

Laura MacLeod of South Amherst invites everyone to a nature walk to celebrate Earth Day April 22 at noon at Mt. Pollux , 1403 S. East St. Wear comfortable shoes. Art and craft activities will be part of the celebration. The event is canceled if it rains.
