Monday is a holiday to celebrate and remember Dr. Martin Luther King and his efforts to be a drum major for justice.

How warm was it last weekend? It was warm enough that a bug was flying in my car.

Orchard Valley residents were walking dogs, pushing strollers, riding bikes, shooting hoops and chatting in the middle of the street.

What an amazing temperature for early January. However, we live in New England and odd weather is common.

Barbara Schuman of Amherst sent me a postcard with views of the clock, nave arches and gate at Wells Cathedral in Somerset, England. She wrote that she looked at the stone-carved faces and the cathedral cat “as we sat and waited for the clock to put on its performance.”

Nina Scott of Amherst sent me an email about a Five College Learning in Retirement event that is free and open to the public.

A legislative forum will be held Jan. 27 at 1:30 p.m. in the Jones Library. The panelists include : Sen. Jo Comerford, D-Northampton, Rep. Natalie Blais, D-Sunderland, Rep. Daniel Carey, D-Easthampton, Mindy Domb, D-Amherst, and Rep. Lindsay Sabadosa, D-Northampton.
