Garden Report: flora and fauna — the iris have bloomed, there are buds on the peonies, the snake has returned and now there are two bunnies who come to eat the grass. The cucumbers, basil and potatoes have been planted. I have been harvesting lettuce leaves.

Michele and Andy Morris Friedman of Hadley sent me an email about a benefit concert for the Friends of Lake Warner. Jazz pianist and vocalist Karrin Allyson will be featured performing May 18 at 4 p.m. at the North Hadley Congregational Church. Tickets at the door.

The money will be used to monitor and improve the health of Lake Warner,

The League of Women Voters, of which I am a member, continues its Judy Brooks Conversation Series with a program on A Better Chance, Thurs., May 22 at 7 p.m. on Zoom, according to an email from Bonnie Isman of Amherst

ABC House Resident Directors Tem Blessed Ferreira and Nancita Alejandro and Board Co-President Rika Clement will explain how the residential high school program prepares academically talented and highly motivated African American, Latino, Asian, and Indigenous American students from educationally underserved school districts for college and future leadership roles.

The 10th annual Sojourner Truth Social Justice Awards will be presented to six graduating seniors May 25 at 2 p.m, at the Sojourner Truth Statue, Park and Pine streets, Florence, according to an email from Carlie Tartakov of Amherst. The event features remarks and music by the Amherst Area Gospel Choir.

The event will be held at the Bombyx Center if it rains.
