Thomas Filiault: Town’s schools need help from Amherst College

After reading much about Amherst Schools impasse in contract negotiations , I would ask this question: Don’t colleges with reputation of Amherst College help their public schools financially? Harvard helps Cambridge and Boston with their cities’ education and infrastructure. A national treasure like Amherst College, as far as I have read, does not see the town of Amherst in the same light. Harvard has an endowment of $49 billion compared to Amherst College’s $3 billion. Harvard is a well respected university I believe in more now for what they do for their surrounding cities in support of public education. Amherst College needs to look at who they want to be right now in regard to its town. Help your public schools like Harvard helps theirs!
