Anita Sarro: Hospice of the Fisher Home ‘lives its motto’

Thank you to reporter Scott Merzbach and the Gazette for running the July 31 article about Hospice of the Fisher Home [“A place to call home”]. The event marked the beginning of our fundraising campaign to raise $500,000 needed to renovate our building in North Amherst.

The focus that day was on the building that houses nine-bed facility. But equally important is the building’s function as the headquarters for our staff and volunteers who provide quality hospice services to patients and families in their homes or in skilled nursing facilities.

As the only independent, Medicare-certified, nonprofit hospice unaffiliated with large medical systems or corporate investors, our staff provide care that receives a five-star rating from the federal Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, the only hospice service in western Massachusetts to do so. These quality services are delivered not only in Amherst, but in many towns on both sides of the river, up and down the Valley. Hospice of the Fisher Home lives its motto, “Care and Compassion in Your Home or Ours.”
