The last two NCAA Division I men’s hockey national champions have a date at the Mullins Center.

Denver, the reigning champions, will visit 2021 champ UMass for a two-game set Oct. 14-15, according to the team’s schedule released last week.

The Minutemen, which have played in the past three NCAA Tournaments, open the season at three-time defending Atlantic Hockey champion AIC on Oct. 8.

Union visits the Mullins Center on Oct. 21 and 22, making up for a series that was canceled last season due to COVID-19 protocols.

UMass is heading to Belfast, Northern Ireland, for the Friendship Four on Nov. 25 and 26. The Minutemen will face UMass Lowell and either Quinnipiac or Dartmouth in the second game.

They also are scheduled to participate in the Kwik Trip Holiday Face Off at the Fiseriv Forum in Milwaukee, Wisc. Dec. 28 and 29. Wisconsin, Clarkson and Lake Superior State are the other three teams.

UMass will close its non-conference schedule against Brown on Jan. 3.

Hockey East play begins Oct. 28 with a home game vs. Merrimack, then the Minutemen will travel to North Andover the following day.

UMass then faces Providence Nov. 4-5 and Boston University Nov. 11-12. The Minutemen are at New Hampshire on Nov. 18.

They host the River Hawks on Dec. 3 and Merrimack against Dec. 8.

Boston College will visit the Mullins Center on Jan. 7, and the Minutemen are at Conte Forum on Jan. 11.

New Hampshire comes to Amherst on Jan. 15. The Hockey East championship rematch series against UConn is Jan. 20 (Amherst) and 21 (Storrs).

UMass then travels to Tsongas Arena to play Lowell for the third time (Jan. 27) and visits Providence on Feb. 3.

The Minutemen will host Vermont for two games Feb. 10-11 before another home-and home with BC (Feb. 17-18).

Senior night will be Feb. 24 against Northeastern before UMass closes the regular season with three road games: at Northeastern on Feb. 25 then two at Maine on March 3-4.
