Happy Labor Day to all who are working or are retired. I am sorry that stores are open on a holiday and some employees don’t get a day off.

Profuse apologizes for the postcard misidentification last week. It all became evident at the Farmer’s Market. I couldn’t make out the name on the postcard, but knew the address since one of last year’s postcard winners, Eileen Wood, lived there. Eileen came to the market with no visible foot injury and said she didn’t send a card from the Virgin Islands. When I explained I used the address, she said it was one street over. Then Alyssa Brewer came to the market with her foot encased in a boot. The light bulb clicked.

This is my public apology to both. To get the egg off my face, I brought a bag of vegetables to Alyssa.

Helen, Alan and dog Trixie sent a postcard of the village of Perce and Bonaventure Island surrounded by beautiful blue water in Quebec, Canada. The card says it is Gaspesie.

It was a long drive but worth it, they wrote. They sea kayaked, went whale watching and saw dolphins jumping and playing in the harbor. They needed wet suits to stay warm during the kayak ride.

The Amherst Club, of which I am member, is having a tag sale Sept. 9 from 9 a.m. to noon on the Town Common on the side near the Lord Jeff. All the money raised will be donated to a local charity. We have an Allocations Committee that will choose an organization.

Garden Report: The volunteer plants in the raised beds were pumpkins and I have harvested two, modest in size but perfectly shaped. I should get two or three more.

I am drying basil and parsley and have frozen dill.
