Driver killed in Belchertown crash

BELCHERTOWN — A 16-year-old boy was killed in a single-vehicle crash on North Washington Street around 5 p.m. Monday, according to police.

The driver and sole occupant of the vehicle was identified as Zachary Fraleigh, who was a junior and played soccer at Belchertown High School.

Belchertown police and fire departments responded to a 911 call reporting the crash involving a serious motor vehicle crash in the area of 606 Washington St. at 5:07 p.m.

Fraleigh was pronounced dead by emergency responders at the scene of the crash, according to Laurie Loisel, the Northwestern district attorney’s office spokeswoman.

As of presstime, Loisel said no additional information about the circumstances of the crash were available.

Belchertown Police and Massachusetts State Police troopers with the Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section and the State Police Detective Unit assigned to the Northwestern District Attorney’s Office are investigating the crash.

The office of the Chief Medical Examiner has not yet determined the cause of death.
