AMHERST — Construction and road milling across the town will result in detours and delays for motorists next week.

From 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. on July 8 and 9, westbound traffic on Main Street will be detoured due to milling work. On July 9 and 10, traffic will be reduced to one lane on College Street and Dickinson Street due to the installation of a new water service for Amherst College from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

On Main Street, all westbound traffic will be detoured to Triangle Street to the roundabout and then south on East Pleasant Street, where vehicles can make a left turn onto Main Street. All eastbound traffic will be allowed to drive through.

On College Street and Dickinson Street, all traffic will be allowed through on one lane.

All work is dependent on the weather. If inclement weather happens, all work will be either pushed forward by one day or a revised schedule may be made.

The Department of Public Works asks drivers to expect possible delays, seek alternate routes and drive slowly in work zones.
