I wasn’t surprised that Hampshire County Register of Probate Michael Carey canceled his reelection campaign event on Oct. 16 to protect the health and well-being of his constituents in this COVID-19 era. He always thinks of others first.

I am disappointed though because I wanted to tell everyone gathered how effective he has been in his position. So I turn to these pages to share my enthusiasm for his re-election. He and his hard working and dedicated staff have carried on the tradition of those who preceded them by bringing innovation to this office, that is all but invisible to most but so critical to those who come to this court, often at the most difficult and challenging time in their lives.

To help the residents of our area, Mike and his team of staff and volunteers have digitized the office’s paper records going back 350 years, providing additional transparency. They also opened a new office in Belchertown to better serve the residents of Eastern Hampshire County and opened a virtual office to serve us all better.

These are but a few examples of the work accomplished in recent years by a model public servant and his team. Please join me in showing our appreciation for their accomplishments by voting for Register of Probate Michael Carey on Nov. 3. Thanks for your consideration.
