Happy Lunar New Year to all our friends and neighbors who celebrate it.

Nina Scott of Amherst called and emailed to let me know that the Five College Learning in Retirement Legislative Forum set for Northampton has been cancelled. She said several of the representatives were unable to make it.

Save the date: The University Women bus trip to New York will be held April 18. Lynn Thompson sent me an email to encourage registration to ensure a full bus. There were doubts that the trips would continue, but the bus was full last April. She and Shirley Stevens, the other organizer, are willing to try again. Call Lynn at 545-6546 to save a seat.

For me, it’s a chance to see my daughter, who lives in Brooklyn, and my sister, who lives in Lakewood, N.J.

The League of Women Voters, of which I am a member, will hold a meeting on the proposed charter March 1 at 7 p.m. in the Regional Middle School Auditorium. Both sides will have speakers and there will be time for questions. Karen Price of the LWV Massachusetts will moderate. It’s free and open to the public.

Another surprise. I won the Winter Fest Cribbage Tournament last week. It really was a surprise since I am a medium player. I lost one game to Tammy Clark of Amherst. She was already a winner since she was wearing her medal for winning the bowling tournament. The glare from the gold was distracting.
