Good news — it is light until almost 6 p.m. What a difference that makes to the day.

District 3 Town Councilor Dorothy Pam sent me an email saying she and George Ryan, the other District 3 Town Councilor, are holding, “Our first District 3 Community Meeting on Sun., March 3, from 2-4 p.m. at the Jones Library, Woodbury Room. Our topic is Focus on Strong Neighborhoods.”

Robert Brooks of Amherst sent me a great email.

“As it approaches, which you will probably note in the “Report,” I call attention to a frequent error — made by most, including media (newspapers, radio, TV) — that it’s “Daylight Saving Time,” not Savings! (Some will be incredulous, if not disbelieving!),” he wrote.

I do note the time change, but I never say which way to go — backward or forward — since I am usually wrong. With modern technology, phones, lap tops an IPads change the time automatically. It takes a few days to change the car’s clock since I have to find the manual.

For the record the date is March 10 when the change happens.

It will make Mr. Brooks happy to know my Letts of London pocket calendar notes “Daylight Saving (singular) Time.”

Another interesting calendar anomaly is holding the so-called “Blarney Blowout ” March 2 when St. Patrick’s Day is March 17. March 2 is closer to Ides of March than St. Patrick’s Day by two days. How about calling it the Brutus Blowout this year.

Or the really correct title should be “Drinking Beer on a March Saturday.”
