Barbara Schuman of Amherst sent a postcard from Oxford, England of the Encaenia procession under Hertford Bridge. The card shows an academic procession with marchers in red robes and the street lined with people. She wrote that several Americans were awarded honorary degrees at the 2022 ceremony.

Locally, the bridge is called the Bridge of Sighs as the one in Venice, she wrote. However, the design resembles the Rialto Bridge in Venice.

This is the first postcard in the summer postcard contest that ends in August with the winner receiving fresh vegetables from the garden.

Feb. 14 is not quite the halfway point of winter, but close enough to think of spring blossoms.
