Garden report: The heat has opened all the peonies. They will not last long in this weather. However, they are still beautiful. I have some wild buttercups that appeared in the yard. The doronicum and candy tuft have bloomed.

I have mulched the onions and staked the tomatoes. There is a blossom on a tomato.

The Friends of Puffer’s Pond Pancake Breakfast is Saturday, June 3 from 8:30 to 11 a.m. at the Mill River Recreation Area. The event includes a raffle and music. Tickets are at the pavilion.

Pianist Estela Olevsky of Amherst and pianist Deborah Gilwood will perform Four Hands for Healthy Habits Sunday, June 4 at the Click Workspace, 9½ Market St., Northampton. The program is a benefit for the Connecticut River Conservancy. Tickets: crc-benefit-concert.eventbrite.com.

Rebecca Fricke of Amherst sent me an email about the Fiberistas Fiber Connection exhibit that will be held weekends in June from 1 to 5 p.m. at Leverett Crafts and Arts, 13 Montague Road, Leverett. An opening reception will be held June 4 from 2 to 4 p.m.

The Amherst Community Band rehearses Monday at 6 p.m. at the Parks Band Building on the UMass campus. All musicians are welcome.

Note the Amherst Fourth of July will be celebrated the first of July at the UMass field with fireworks. The band will play at the celebration.

Linda Martson sent email photos of a trip to Maine to celebrate Dennis Bromery’s birthday. The couple took a private guided goat hike. Linda sent a picture of her holding a goat that is just splendid. Another photo showed a very happy smiling Dennis at a candlelit table for his birthday dinner.

Ted Mone of Amherst sent several email photos from his trip to Italy. “We enjoyed viewing many Basilicas, the beautiful countryside and the canals of Venice,” he wrote. One photo was of the Trevi fountain and the cathedral in Orvieto.

Both emails count towards the summer postcard contest.
