For those that celebrate Thanksgiving, enjoy the camaraderie and cherish your family and friends. We recognize that for the Indigenous people it is a day of mourning.

The Jones Library is holding a food and hygiene product collection for the Amherst Survival Center. Bring nonperishable food, such as tuna, peanut butter, pasta, cereal ,as well as soap, tooth paste, deodorant, to the Jones Library or the Munson Memorial Library in South Amherst. I was at the library this week and they have a nice collection.

Besides food for survival centers and food pantries, organizations collect mittens, coats, hats, scarves and socks for people in needs. Charities also appeal for end of year donations. If you can help, thank you. If you need help, please ask.

The Valley Winds will perform Musical Tapas Sunday, Nov. 21 at 4 p.m. at the Academy of Music in Northampton. Brian Messier, who is the managing and artistic director of the group, sent me an email saying, “Please join The Valley Winds in their triumphant and celebratory return to LIVE MUSIC in the Valley.” I think the caps are appropriate since we are now seeing more live performances and it’s great to be a live audience.

Tickets: $15 adults, $10 children 10 and under. You can call the Academy box office or get them at the door.

Anita Sarro of Amherst sent me an email asking for help. She wrote that the Hospice of the Fisher Home Thrift Store at 6 University Drive is open and looking for volunteers to help in the shop. The store would like to increase hours and needs help in processing donations. You can donate gently used clothing, jewelry, housewares, and books. She said the donations are always appreciated. Call the Hospice Shop at 413-549-8800.
