NORTHAMPTON — A fraternity at the University of Massachusetts Amherst pleaded not guilty on Monday, Oct. 22, to charges of hazing and procuring alcohol for a minor.

The four charges were brought against the Theta Mu chapter of the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity as a corporate entity after incidents in November of 2017 that led to a student being hospitalized for alcohol poisoning. The fraternity has been suspended by UMass Amherst under the student code of conduct, and has also been suspended by its parent organization.

The fraternity’s next court date will be a pre-trial hearing scheduled for late January.
