Cultural fusion and conversation

Ernesto Montenegro and Dr. Foad will present their exhibit “Right to Left/What’s Left to Write?” initiating a public conversation about cultural fusion. Montenegro’s 42-year-old mural from the Boston South End will be repurposed for the event, enhanced by writing from a Farsi text. The display and dialogue, hosted by A.P.E. Gallery and R. Michelson Galleries, will take place at A.P.E. Gallery on Friday, May 11, from 5-8 p.m. The exhibit will also be on display Saturday, May 12, and Sunday, May 13, during gallery hours. A.P.E. Gallery is located at 126 Main Street in Northampton. For more information, go to apearts.org/upcoming.

#LOCAL gallery grand opening and reception

A new art gallery is opening in Easthampton. Once a month, #LOCAL “will create a multimedia gallery experience with thoughtfully curated, thematic shows with multiple artists,” according to press notes. “We’ll have a new show every month coinciding with Easthampton’s Art Walk.” Easthampton entrepreneurs and arts patrons, Lennie and Elizabeth Appelquist of Cider House Media, will launch their latest venture during the city’s Art Walk Saturday, May 12, from 5-8 p.m. in the former Nash Gallery at 40 Cottage Street in Easthampton. #LOCAL’s opening will spotlight 15 local artists whose work touches on “New Beginnings.” In addition to the artists, there will be music by Randy Collins. Sponsors Corsello Butcheria, Glendale Ridge Winery and The Botaniste will provide additional flavor. For more about #LOCAL, go to facebook.com/localgalleryeasthampton/.
