Jazz in July 

The University of Massachusetts Amherst’s summer music program — a two-week workshop on the history and technique of jazz — will be hosting two “All Stars” faculty performances at Bezanson Recital Hall on campus, during the program’s run. The performance on Thursday, July 12 will feature Sheila Jordan, Avery Sharpe and Earl MacDonald. The second performance, on Thursday, July 19, will feature Steve Davis, Luis Perdomo and Felipe Salles. These seasoned jazz musicians will offer their expertise to students during the program. Both shows start at 7:30 p.m., and tickets are available online at jazzinjuly.com and at the Fine Arts Center box office. 

Oxbow Gallery presents artwork by Jane Timken and Joan Dix Blair

Exhibitions by painter Jane Timken and printmaker Joan Dix Blair will be on display at the Oxbow Gallery from now through August 5.

Located at 275 Pleasant Street in Northampton, Oxbow Gallery is managed by 35 local and regional artists and features paintings, photographs, sculptures and more. Blair, who uses wood and copper to create etchings, will be displaying her exhibition titled “Blue Garden: Cyanotypes, 2017-18.”

Timken, a Smith College alumna, works with oil paints and watercolors. Her exhibition is titled “Flowering.”

KO Festival of Performance in Amherst

KO Theater Works Inc. is producing the 27th installment of the KO Festival of Performance, which is five weekends of theater performances and workshops. The fest will take place July 6 through August 5.

KO’s goal is to present unusual and thought-provoking shows to the Pioneer Valley. This season’s theme is “Radical Acts” and features original works such as “The Oven,” “Like a Mother Bear,” and “Industrious Angels.” All performances will be in Holden Theater on the Amherst College campus.
