Mandolin New England performs in Hadley

Mandolin New England, a mandolin orchestra, will perform Sunday, July 29 in the Corn Barn at the Porter-Phelps-Huntington House Museum, located at 130 River Dr. in Hadley. The performance is directed by the orchestra’s founder, Adam Sweet, and features mandolin renditions of compositions by Mozart, Schubert and Bach. The orchestra lineup includes students and professionals, and the audience will get the chance to see mandolas and mandocellos played as well.

A.P.E. Gallery presents ARC.18: Activate, Research, Create

A.P.E Gallery’s summer series is titled ARC.18 and runs through August. The third of these four distinct projects, “The Space Between: Weaving and Fibrous Connection,” will be on display August 3-17, with an artists’ reception on August 10, 5-8 p.m. during Northampton Arts Night Out. The project displays the work of three hand-weavers, Anastatia Spicer, Claire Hawley Crews and Sarah Rose Lejeune, which includes woven sculptures and fibrous drawings. Visitors will be able to engage with the artwork by working on a loom with the artists.

The Cardboard Sea Theater Company presents an original play

The Cardboard Sea Theater Company presents “The Amendments,” an original play by Jeff Donnelly, at Northampton’s Anchor House of Artists, located at 518 Pleasant St. The show will be performed three nights, August 2, 3 and 4, at 8 p.m.

Premiered at the Magnetic Theater in Asheville, North Carolina, “The Amendments” is the story of Judith, who comes home a night before her father’s funeral to retrieve something and finds her brother has already claimed it. Branching off into surrealism, the play has been adapted for the experimental space of the Anchor House of Artists. Not recommended for children. Self-portrait exhibition at Gallery A3 in Amherst 

“Introspections: Self-Portraits by Gallery A3 Artists” will be on display at Amherst’s Gallery A3, located at 28 Amity St. 1D, from August 3 through September 1. 

The works on display were produced by 19 local artists, using painting, photography, sculpture and mixed media. The project was titled “Introspections” as a nod to the artists’ reflective processes when creating a self-portrait.

The gallery will be hosting a reception on August 2, from 5-8 p.m. and a discussion with the featured artists on August 16, at 7:30 p.m.
