I wanted to reach out and say thank you to the Amherst Town Council for opting into MassDOT’s regulations for the establishment of safety zones. Safety zones will help make our playgrounds, parks, early-childhood education centers, and eldercare facilities safer by allowing the town to set speed limits at or lower than 20 mph in areas where the most vulnerable members of our community are exposed to vehicular traffic. Thank you especially to current Town Council members Lynn Griesemer, Cathy Schoen, and Ana Devlin Gauthier for all their hard work to bring this forward, and to Matt Holloway, who is running as an at-large candidate, for taking action on my concerns and helping to navigate town government to get this moving. Thank you again for starting the process of making our streets safer for kids, families, and all members of our community!
