Amherst Police

* Daviel Rivera, 24, of Mill Valley Estates, was arrested Monday at 6:20 p.m. on East Hadley Road on charges of operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license, subsequent offense, and possession of a class D substance, marijuana, subsequent offense, police said.

* A woman told police Monday at 3:25 p.m. that she was punched in the face Sept. 27 around 12:01 a.m. at Brandywine Apartments and received eight stitches in her upper lip. Police are investigating the alleged assault.

" A dead wild turkey was found stuffed inside the toilet of a Phillips Street home Sunday at 7:59 p.m.

Police said the turkey had apparently been killed in a roadway by a passing vehicle and was brought to the home as prank. The 10 college students who live there said there was no signs of forced entry to the home and assumed the incident was a prank. The animal welfare officer is investigating the matter.

" The following people will be summoned to court on charges of being minors in possession of alcohol and violating the town's open container bylaw following incidents on Fearing Street, Nutting Avenue, Hobart Lane and North Pleasant Street between Sept. 27 at 10:19 p.m. and Sunday at 2:12 a.m., police said.

An 18-year-old Rensselaer, N.Y. woman; an 18-year-old South Easton woman; a 19-year-old Hopedale man; and two 20-year-old Holliston men.

" The following people were arrested between Sept. 27 at 10:37 p.m. and Sunday at 1:07 a.m. on Fearing Street, Hobart Lane and North Pleasant Street on charges of being minors in possession of alcohol and violating the town's open container bylaw, police said.

Shaun Casey, 19, of Wales; William E. Foard, 18, of High Bridge, N.J.; Joshua T. Matusz, 20, of Turners Falls, and Eric R. Wells, 19, of West Bridgwater.

" Gordon A. Forbes, 19, of Hyde Park, was arrested Sunday at 12:28 a.m. on Nutting Avenue on a charge of being a minor in possession of alcohol, police said.

" A 22-year-old Foxborough man and a 23-year-old Stow man will be summoned to court on charges of violating the town's open container bylaw following incidents on North Pleasant Street and Fearing Street Sept. 27 at 1:46 a.m. and 10:26 p.m., police said.

" A 40-year-old Amherst woman will be summoned to court on a charge of unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle following a traffic stop on East Hadley Road Sept. 27 at 6:27 p.m., police said.

" Kari McClure, 24, of Enfield, Conn., was arrested Sept. 27 at 3:05 a.m. on Northampton Road on charges of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and failure to stay within marked lanes, police said.

" Christopher M. Kilday, 20, of East Falmouth, was arrested Sept. 27 at 2:34 a.m. on North Pleasant Street on charges of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol, negligent operation of a motor vehicle and failure to stay within marked lanes, police said.

" A 20-year-old Amherst man will be summoned to court on a charge of being a minor in possession of alcohol following an incident on North Pleasant Street Sept. 27 at 2:33 a.m., police said.

" Jonathan Menzin, 20, of Lexington, and David R. Sobin, 21, of Medfield, were both arrested Sept. 27 at 1:44 a.m. at 36 South Whitney St. after police responded to the home for people talking loudly and playing loud music, police said.

It was the second time police responded within a two-hour period, police said.

Menzin was also arrested on a charge of possession of a class E substance, police said.

" Vivek Baid, 19, of East Pleasant Street, Samar M. Parikh, 21, of Parsippany, N.J., and Sameer A. Siddiqi, 19, of Rome, N.Y., were all arrested Sept. 27 at 12:21 a.m. at an East Pleasant Street home on charges of violating the town's noise bylaw, police said.

Police responded to the home for the second time in the span of an hour for loud yelling and music when the arrests were made, police said.

" A 20-year-old Leominster man will be summoned to court on a charge of possession of a class D substance, marijuana, following a police response for a loud party at a South Whitney Street home Sept. 26 at 11:45 p.m., police said.

Between 100 and 150 people were removed from the home and a resident was issued a verbal warning for violating the town's noise bylaw, police said.

" A 13-year-old Amherst girl was arrested Sept. 26 at 7:06 p.m. at an Amherst home on a charge of domestic assault and battery after she struck her mother in the face, police said. The mother didn't need medical attention, police said.

" Benjamin A. Bishop, 21, of Seattle, Wash., was arrested Sept. 26 at 4:54 a.m. on Glendale Road on two counts of breaking and entering to commit a felony after he entered homes on Glendale Road and Applewood Lane, police said.

Bishop spoke to residents at both locations but didn't attempt to steal anything, police said.

" A high-powered flashing red light reported at the top of the Notch Sept. 25 at 8:10 p.m. was determined to have been placed there for the Mel Gibson "Edge of Darkness" movie that is being filmed. Amherst, Hadley and Amherst College police all investigated the bright light after it was reported to police, while a state police airwing flew over the Notch to check on the beacon.

" Saroyinviny Chhom, 19, of Florence, was arrested Sept. 25 at 7:17 p.m. on Mill Lane on a charge of leaving the scene of a personal injury accident, police said.

Chhom got into an argument with an 18-year-old woman at Southpoint Apartments before getting into her vehicle and hitting the other woman with the vehicle, police said.

The victim suffered a broken ankle and was brought to Cooley Dickinson Hospital in Northampton for treatment, police said.

" A 78-year-old Leverett woman will be summoned to court on charges of leaving the scene of a property damage accident and failure to use care in backing after the vehicle she was parallel parking on Boltwood Avenue ran into a motorcycle, tipping the motorcycle over and causing it to spill a small amount of gasoline Sept. 25 at 2:05 p.m., police said.

" A 22-year-old Canton man will be summoned to court on charges of unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, operating a motor vehicle with no inspection sticker and operating a motor vehicle with registration not in possession, after the motorcycle he was riding on Belchertown Road was stopped Sept. 24 at 8:20 p.m., police said.

Amherst police said Belchertown police might file additional charges against the man after infractions in their town.

" Hector DeJesus, 46, of Echo Village Apartments, was arrested Sept. 24 at 6:35 p.m. at his home on a charge of domestic assault and battery after he shoved a woman, police said. The woman was not injured, according to police.

" A vehicle parked at the Big Y Supermarket on University Drive was reported broken into Sept. 24 at 2:45 p.m. after a side window was smashed. A GPS navigational unit was taken from the vehicle, police said.

" A 13-year-old Amherst boy was arrested Sept. 24 at 9:20 a.m. at the middle school on a charge of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon (a chair) after he hit a teacher by throwing the chair at her, police said.

The teacher was not injured in the incident, police said.

" A 13-year-old Amherst boy reported Sept. 23 at 5:25 p.m. that five to six other teenagers robbed him of his wristwatch, cell phone and $2 in cash about an hour earlier in the area of Triangle Street near the West Cemetery. The boy told police he was placed in a headlock and thrown to the ground, before being repeatedly punched and then kicked twice in the face. The boy had a scrape on his arm but no other visible injuries, police said. Police are investigating the incident.

" Zachary E. Carro, 21, of Bridgewater, was issued a citation for failure to yield the right of way to oncoming traffic after the vehicle he was driving at the corner of the Route 116 bypass and Meadow Street Sept. 22 at 9:45 p.m. collided with a vehicle driven by Robert Sprague, 38, of Plainville, police said.

Both vehicles had to be towed, but no personal injuries were reported, police said.

" A 19-year-old Portchester, N.Y. man will be summoned to court on charges of leaving the scene of a property damage accident and failure to use care in turning following a hit-and-run accident at the corner of Route 116 and Meadow Street Sept. 2 at 4:38 p.m., police said.

" Between Sept. 23 and Sept. 30, police recovered a passport, a set of keys and a wallet and took reports of two lost wallets, a lost cell phone and a lost set of car keys. Police checked for speeding vehicles on East Pleasant Street and Strong Street, provided two courtesy escorts and one funeral escort, performed well-being checks on five residents and delivered mail to members of the Select Board.

Police responded to false alarms at seven businesses, five residences and the high school and checked on vehicles parked on Pray Street, Pine Street, Rolling Green Drive, Main Street, Chestnut Court and University Drive and at Townehouse Apartments, the high school and Mill River Recreation Area.

Hadley Police

" A wallet was reported stolen from the Burger King restaurant on Route 9 Sept. 25 at 10:09 p.m.

" Jarrod Delaney, 20, of Stockbridge Street, and Rachel E. Gorman, 21, of Northampton, were both arrested Sept. 25 at 9:41 p.m. on Stockbridge Street on charges of possession of a class D substance, marijuana, police said.

" Robert F. Messier, 48, of Russell Street, was arrested Sept. 24 at 5:38 p.m. on a charge of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon after he struck another person in the face with a car door, police said.

" A laptop computer was stolen from a Greenleaves Drive home that was reported broken into Sept. 24 at 1:36 a.m.

" A Honey Pot Road resident reported Sept. 23 at 1 p.m. that someone is stealing potatoes from his fields.

UMass Police

" Thomas F. Hebb, 19, of Chicopee, and Jeremy L. Hicks, 22, of Enfield, Conn., were both arrested Sunday at 12:53 a.m. in Lot 33 off University Drive on charges breaking and entering during the nighttime to commit a felony and larceny over $250, police said. Hebb was also arrested on a charge of receiving stolen property over $250, police said. Both men were arrested after police located them entering vehicles, police said.

" Ian W. Woishnis, 25, of South East Street, Amherst, was arrested Sunday at 12:21 a.m. on North Pleasant Street on charges of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol, second offense, failure to stay within marked lanes and carrying a dangerous weapon on school grounds, police said.

" Malcom Lahage, 19, of Marshfield, was arrested Sept. 27 at 11:50 p.m. in Lot 44 off Sylvan Drive on charges of domestic assault and battery, disorderly conduct and possession of a class D substance, marijuana, police said.

" Thomas Watson, 20, of Devonshire, Bermuda, was arrested Sept. 27 at 11:40 p.m. in Lot 32E off Massachusetts Avenue on charges of possession of a class D substance, marijuana, failure to stay within marked lanes, operating a motor vehicle with a number plate violation to conceal identity, operating an uninsured motor vehicle and operating a motor vehicle with a suspended registration, police said.

" The following people will be summoned to court on charges of being minors in possession of alcohol following incidents between Sept. 18 at 5:54 p.m. and Sept. 27 at 7:28 p.m. on Fearing Street and University Drive and in Lots 21, 22 and 33 off University Drive, police said:

A 17-year-old Worcester resident; three 18-year-old Hanover men; an 18-year-old Springfield man; an 18-year-old Wareham man; an 18-year-old Weymouth man; a 19-year-old Assonet man;two-19-year-old Weymouth men; a 20-year-old Foxborough man; and a 20-year-old Framingham man.

" Ilana N. Epstein, 19, of Teaneck, N.J., was arrested Sept. 27 at 9:55 a.m. at Baker dormitory on a charge of possession of a class D substance, marijuana, police said.

A 19-year-old Westwood woman will be summoned to court on a charge of possession of a class D substance, marijuana, as a result of the same incident, police said.

" Peter M. Cegelka, 22, of North Haven, Conn., was arrested Sept. 27 at 3:28 a.m. on Massachusetts Avenue on charges of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol, failure to stop/yield and possession of an open container of alcohol in a motor vehicle, police said.

" Allyn L. Fye, 23, of Grantwood Drive, Amherst, was arrested Sept. 27 at 1:19 a.m. in Lot 44 off Sylvan Drive on charges of trespassing, resisting arrest and intimidating a witness, police said.

" Richard R. Lalonde, 20, of Lanesborough, was arrested Sept. 27 at 1:06 a.m. on Kennedy Road on charges of assault and battery, assault and battery on a police officer, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct, police said.

" A 19-year-old North Salem, N.Y. woman will be summoned to court on two counts of possession of a class B substance, two counts of possession of a class E substance, possession of a class D substance, marijuana, and possession of a class D substance, marijuana, with intent to distribute following an incident at Washington dormitory Sept. 26 at 5:40 a.m. , police said.

" The following six people were arrested Sept. 26 at 12:38 a.m. at Washington dormitory on charges of possession of a class D substance, marijuana, and possession of a class D substance, marijuana, with intent to distribute, police said:

Rebecca J. Caldarella, 19, of Mahopac; Liam Collins, 19, of Granby, Conn.; Seamus L. Munnelly, 19, of Bellingham; John P. Rodgers, 20, of Peabody; Nick Ruccione, 19, of Ringwood, N.J.; and Alexandra L. Russell, 19, of North Salem, N.Y.

" Arthur E. McLaughlin, 24, of Weymouth, was arrested Sept. 24 at 12:21 a.m. on Clark Hill Road on charges of operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license, failure to stop/yield and speeding, police said.

" Three men are facing drug possession charges following the execution of a search warrant Sept. 18 at 9:11 p.m. at Grayson dormitory based on information from a confidential informant, police said.

An 18-year-old Lextington man, a 19-year-old Amherst man and a 19-year-old Califon, N.J. man are all being summoned to court on charges of possession of a class D substance, marijuana, police said.

The Lexington man and the Califon, N.J. man are also being charged with possession of a class D substance, marijuana, with intent to distribute, and being minors in possession of alcohol, police said.

Saturday, Sept. 13

TRAFFIC

" 10:49 a.m. - A vehicle with a license-plate violation and that failed to display its registration was stopped on North Pleasant Street. The driver was issued a citation for failure to wear a seat belt.

" 11:48 a.m. - Utility wires were torn down by a truck in the area of Valley View Drive.

" 12:20 p.m. - The Department of Public Works was notified about a tree limb down on Flat Hills Road.

" 1:53 p.m. - Police stopped a vehicle with a defective taillight on North Pleasant Street. The driver was issued a warning.

" 2:58 p.m. - A vehicle blocking the entrance to a North Pleasant Street driveway was towed.

" 5:15 p.m. - Police spoke to Northampton Road residents about keeping their vehicles off the sidewalk.

" 7:03 p.m. - The Department of Public Works was advised of a sink hole forming in the parking lot near Big Y Supermarket.

" 7:07 p.m. - Two empty Budweiser 30-pack boxes were removed from South Pleasant Street near the Amherst College campus.

" 10:54 p.m. - A vehicle with an expired registration was stopped on East Pleasant Street. The driver was issued a warning and the vehicle was towed.

SUNDAY, SEPT. 14

SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY

" 12:52 a.m. - A 20-year-old Marblehead man was placed into protective custody after he was found intoxicated on North Pleasant Street.

" 6:06 p.m. - A Belchertown Road woman told police that a man to whom she owes $220 came into her home and made threats toward her to get the money. She has since repaid the money.

CITIZEN ASSISTANCE

" 7:26 p.m. - A refrigerator left in a driveway on Strong Street was secured by police so a child could not get trapped inside it.

DISTURBANCES

" 1:03 a.m. - People breaking beer bottles in the middle of a North Pleasant Street driveway were leaving the area when police got there.

" 1:04 a.m. - A customer causing problems at the DB Mart on Triangle Street left before officers got to the store.

LARCENY

" 4:58 p.m. - Two college-age people who attempted to steal a birdhouse from The Blue Marble were caught by the store owner. They returned the merchandise and fled.

VANDALISM

" 10:50 a.m. - A woman reported her vehicle was damaged when a large rock was thrown through the back window while it was parked at Iota Gamma Upsilon.

FIGHTS

" 2:15 a.m. - Five men fighting in the area of Triangle and East Pleasant streets were gone when police got there.

ASSAULTS

" 2:06 a.m. - A woman told police she was grabbed around the neck by a man while outside the downtown bars.

NOISE COMPLAINTS

" 12:07 a.m. - Police attempted to deal with noise from loud foot traffic on Sunset Avenue.

" 12:22 a.m. - Police issued a verbal warning to Main Street residents talking loudly.

" 12:25 a.m. - A dog barking on Wildflower Drive was quiet when police got there.

" 12:26 a.m. - Loud yelling on Summer Street was not found by police.

" 12:46 a.m. - Police advised several residences on Phillips Street and Allen Street to keep their parties quiet. At 12:47 a.m., police went to the area of Fearing and North Pleasant streets to ensure all was quiet,

" 2:45 a.m. - Police issued a verbal warning to Puffton Village residents playing a loud stereo.

" 2:47 a.m. - People talking loudly on Edgehill Place were quiet when police got there.

ANIMAL COMPLAINTS

" 11:05 a.m. - Two dead geese in the soccer net at the high school were removed. The geese appeared to have been killed by a predator.

MOTOR VEHICLE

ACCIDENTS

" 2:17 a.m. - Two people went to the UMass Infirmary claiming they had been hit by a vehicle on Belchertown Road, police said.

There was no evidence that they had actually been struck by a vehicle, though one of the victims had abrasions to his head and arms and went to Cooley Dickinson Hospital in Northampton for treatment.

" 2:58 a.m. - A minor two-car accident with no personal injuries took place at the corner of Main and North Whitney streets, police said.

TRAFFIC

" 9:08 a.m. and 8:14 p.m. - Vehicles were found blocking a portion of the travel lane on College Street and Pine Street. Police advised the owners to move them

" 10:41 a.m. - Police notified the Department of Public Works about a couch left in the middle of Phillips Street.

" 4:16 p.m. - Police pulled over a vehicle that failed to use care in starting on Longmeadow Drive and issued the driver a warning.

" 7:24 p.m. - A raccoon hit by a vehicle on Main Street was not located by police.

ADDITIONAL ACTIVITY

" 12:55 a.m. - Amherst police assisted Granby police in searching for a vehicle whose driver left a gas station without paying for $80 in gas.

MONDAY, SEPT. 15

SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY

" 12:45 a.m. - The handles were found broken on the doors to a downtown building, but police determined no break-in had been attempted and that the damage was old.

" 1:25 a.m. - Trash was found dumped near an ATM in downtown Amherst.

" 3:12 a.m. - A motion light that came on at Cherry Hill Golf Course was determined to have been triggered by a raccoon that knocked over a trash barrel.

" 1:03 p.m. - The source of gun shots heard on old Farm Road was not located by police.

" 10:31 p.m. - A small campfire near Presidential Apartments was extinguished by the people who started it.

DISTURBANCES

" 8:06 p.m. - A group of college-age people reported fighting in the area of The Boulders was not located by police.

LARCENY

" 6:18 a.m. - A 1995 Acura Legend was reported stolen from Rolling Green Drive.

NOISE COMPLAINTS

" 1:17 a.m. - A loud guitar was reported playing at a West Street home, but all was quiet when police got there.

ANIMAL COMPLAINTS

" 7:59 a.m. - Police are investigating a dog bite that occurred on Grantwood Drive three days earlier.

" 1:16 p.m. - A person reported being bit by a dog while walking on Pine Street.

MOTOR VEHICLE

ACCIDENTS

" 9:42 a.m. - Jessica R. Whitney, 32, of The Brook, was issued a citation for failure to use care in stopping after the vehicle she was driving on West Street rearended a vehicle driven by Rene Theberge, 62, of Shutesbury Road, which in turn was pushed into a vehicle driven by Joanne G. Dupre, 57, of South Dartmouth, police said.

Robert Menard, 69, of Westport and a passenger in Dupre's vehicle, Dupre and Theberge all complained of minor pain, but didn't require treatment, police said.

All three vehicles were towed from the scene, according to police.

" 9:59 a.m. - A vehicle parked on Hobart Lane sustained minor damage when it was struck by a second vehicle that fled the area, police said.

" 11:39 a.m. - Erik Walther, 18, of Hubbardston, was issued a citation for failure to use care in stopping after the vehicle he was driving on East Pleasant Street near Clark Hill Road rearended a vehicle driven by Shannon B. O'Neil, 19, of Tewksbury, police said.

Damage to both vehicles was minor and no personal injuries were reported, police said.

" 7:53 p.m. and 9:04 p.m. - Minor two-car accidents with no personal injuries took place at the corner of North Pleasant and Triangle streets and in the parking lot of Riverside Park Shopping Plaza, police said.

TRAFFIC

" 3:28 p.m. - A box truck was reported idling on North Whitney Street for more than an hour.

" 9:23 p.m. - A vehicle with its license plate improperly displayed was stopped on Main Street. The driver was issued a verbal warning.

" 2:13 p.m. - Amherst police attempted to contact South East Street residents on behalf of Hadley police.

TUESDAY, SEPT. 16

SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY

" 1:17 a.m. - A suspicious vehicle at Village Park was gone when police got there.

" 4:34 a.m. - A dome light was found on inside a vehicle at Puffton Village, but no entry appeared to be gained.

" 4:35 a.m. - Police got a call from a man who said an intoxicated woman was being abused at an Amherst home. Police determined that the woman, who was the man's ex-wife, didn't live in Amherst and there was no evidence she was being harmed. The man making the complaint was determined to be homeless and had just been released from the hospital where he had been undergoing a psychiatric examination.

" 8:22 p.m. - Firecrackers set off on Bridle Path ended before police got there.

CITIZEN ASSISTANCE

" 2:59 p.m.- Broken glass was repeatedly found outside a North Pleasant Street home. Police spoke with possible suspects on Phillips Street about stopping their behavior.

" 5:12 p.m. - Police spoke to North Hadley Road residents about an issue involving the theft of a wheelchair within the home. Police determined that the wheelchair had just been moved to a common area and was not stolen. Police returned to the home at 7:51 p.m. after receiving more accusations about violations of the Americans with Disabilities Act. The following day police went back to deal with a cable television issue and whether a resident had permission to drill a hole in the wall to install the cable.

RECOVERED PROPERTY

" 10:10 a.m. - A 1995 Acura Legend reported stolen from an Amherst location was found in Springfield with two tires and a radio missing from it.

VANDALISM

" 2:26 a.m. - Tires on a vehicle parked at Brandywine Apartments were deflated by vandals. Eggs were also thrown on the vehicle, and its antenna was bent in half.

FIGHTS

" 11:01 p.m. - Four men involved in a fist fight at the Monkey Bar were gone when police got there.

ANIMAL COMPLAINTS

" 8:25 p.m. - Dogs barking repeatedly on Rosemary Street were put inside for the night.

MOTOR VEHICLE

ACCIDENTS

" 2:10 p.m. - Gerard J. Bernard, 84, of South Hadley, was issued a citation for failure to use care in passing after the vehicle he was driving on West Street near the Notch struck the rear wheel of a bicycle ridden by Craig E. Pushee, 50, of Granby, police said.

Pushee was thrown to the ground and was transported by Amherst Fire Department ambulance to Cooley Dickinson Hospital for treatment, though a hospital spokeswoman had no record of Pushee being admitted, police said.

" 2:25 p.m. - A bicyclist riding on North Pleasant Street near the Fine Arts Center struck a pedestrian, police said.

The bicyclist, whose name was not released by police, sustained minor injuries and was brought to Cooley Dickinson Hospital in Northampton for treatment, police said.

The pedestrian was not injured, according to police.

" 4:19 p.m. - Sean McGuire, no age or address available, was issued a citation for failure to use care in turning after the PVTA bus he was driving on North Pleasant Street struck a parked vehicle, police said.

Damage was minor to both vehicles and no personal injuries were reported, police said.

TRAFFIC

" 12:32 a.m. - A vehicle with an expired registration and no inspection sticker was stopped on South Pleasant Street. The driver was issued a citation and the vehicle was towed.

" 1:53 a.m. - Police stopped a vehicle with a lights violation on North Pleasant Street and issued the driver a warning.

" 4:32 p.m. - Police issued a citation to the driver of a vehicle with an expired registration stopped on East Pleasant Street.

" 4:57 p.m. - A vehicle with an expired inspection sticker was pulled over on College Street. The driver was issued a verbal warning.

" 5 p.m. - Police pulled over a vehicle with no inspection sticker on College Street. Police determined the vehicle had just been registered and issued the driver a verbal warning for the offense.

" 9:10 p.m. - A headlight out on a vehicle on Sunderland Road led to police stopping it. Police issued the driver a verbal warning.

" 9:16 p.m. - A dead rabbit was found in the middle of Belchertown Road. The Department of Public Works was notified.

ADDITIONAL ACTIVITY

" 12:03 p.m. - Amherst police assisted Hadley police in searching for a man who assaulted a clerk at Marshall's at Mountain Farms Mall and also stole items from the store.

" 8:39 p.m. - Amherst police assisted Holyoke police in identifying people making annoying and harassing phone calls.

WEDNESDAY, SEPT. 17

SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY

" 2:04 p.m. - Three men were allegedly smoking marijuana behind a woman's North Pleasant Street home. All were located and none had any illegal drugs.

" 2:39 a.m. - Police received an allegation that a person went into an Amherst home with stolen building materials, including copper. Police determined the items belonged to him and were not stolen.

CITIZEN ASSISTANCE

" 8:34 a.m. - An Echo Village Apartments resident accused a neighbor of stealing a cell phone. No problems were discovered.

" 11:35 a.m. - Police notified an East Longmeadow man that he has been issued a restraining order to stay away from an Amherst location.

DISTURBANCES

" 1:10 a.m. - Two women pushing each other outside the downtown bars fled into the crowd of onlookers when police got there. At 1:22 a.m., police located the same women in front of Antonio's, separated them and sent them on their way.

" 6 p.m. - Police went to an Amherst home after a child got angry with his father about his cell phone being taken away. The father said the child had run the text messaging expenses over a limit.

VANDALISM

" 8:10 p.m. - Glass was found smashed at a Main Street building, but no entry was gained.

NOISE COMPLAINTS

" 1:45 a.m. - Screeching tires and loud voices on Fearing Street were quiet when police got there.

" 1:49 a.m. - People yelling profanities and shooting paintball guns on Sunset Avenue were not located by police.

" 2:07 a.m. - A baby crying at a Grantwood Drive home was later determined to be the sound of a family cat that got into a fight with another cat. The baby checked out OK.

" 4:15 a.m. - Police issued a verbal warning to Puffton Village residents playing loud music.

" 5:09 p.m. - Loud music playing at Southpoint Apartments was quiet when police got there.

" 11:42 p.m. - A verbal warning was issued by police to Salem Place residents playing a loud stereo ad talking loudly.

ANIMAL COMPLAINTS

* 8:51 a.m. - An ill raccoon was destroyed on Station Road near the Norwottuck Rail Trail.

* 12:31 p.m. - Police assisted a Bay Road resident deal with a skunk issue.

* 6:20 p.m. - A pheasant or goose hit by a vehicle on Bay Road was not located.

MOTOR VEHICLE

ACCIDENTS

* 3:31 p.m. - A vehicle driven by Michael K. Kaplan-Bie, 22, of Lexington, and a bicycle ridden by Courtney A. Mulroy, 20, of Westford, collided at the intersection of Fearing Street and Lincoln Avenue, police said.

Mulroy sustained an injury to her ankle and was transported by Amherst Fire Department ambulance to Cooley Dickinson Hospital in Northampton where she was treated and released, police said.

No citations were issued as Mulroy told police officers she didn't stop at the stop sign at the intersection, police said.

* 9:38 p.m. - A minor two-car accident with no personal injuries on North Pleasant Street, police said.

TRAFFIC

* 12:58 a.m. - A vehicle that failed to stay within marked lanes on West Street was stopped by police and the driver was issued a verbal warning.

* 7:32 p.m. - Police issued a ticket to a vehicle blocking a driveway on North Pleasant Street.

ADDITIONAL ACTIVITY

* 7:58 p.m. - Amherst police assisted Hadley police by checking on a vehicle at Village Park whose occupants may have been responsible for theft of a purse at Hampshire Mall.

THURSDAY, SEPT. 18

SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY

* 12:58 a.m. - The source of the sound of glass breaking at the corner of North Pleasant and Hallock streets was not located.

* 4:20 p.m. - A homeless man drinking a beer behind the Carriage Shops was advised to dump it.

* 6:20 p.m. - Police found a man throwing trash into the bushes near a Kellogg Avenue business. The man was told to clean up the mess he was making.

* 6:29 p.m. - Two women inside a vehicle parked on North Pleasant Street for an extended period of time checked out OK. Police determined the woman were friends who were chatting.

CITIZEN ASSISTANCE

* 2:57 p.m. - An employee was reported missing from a downtown business. Police learned the man had been in Rutland, Vt. earlier in the week and has often acted erratically.

* Between 10:40 p.m. and 11:12 p.m. - Police checked the IDs of patrons at nine Amherst bars and restaurants. No violations were found.

FIGHTS

* 4:34 p.m. - People fighting at Southpoint Apartments fled before police got there.

ASSAULTS

* 4:54 p.m. - Police investigated an incident in which an Amherst woman may have been assaulted in Springfield.

NOISE COMPLAINTS

* 6:17 a.m. - A loud garbage truck on Hallock Street was not located by police.

ANIMAL COMPLAINTS

* 1:55 p.m. - A barking dog was reported on Pine Street.

* 2:09 p.m. - A quarantine notice was issued to the owners of a dog on Blackberry Lane.

* 5:38 p.m. - A dog that may have been injured when it was hit by a vehicle on Bay Road was not located by police.

MOTOR VEHICLE

ACCIDENTS

* 7:36 a.m. - Kristin L. Mizula, 23, of Shelburne, was issued a citation for failure to use care in stopping after the vehicle she was driving on Sunderland Road rearended a vehicle driven by Marie Welch, 55, of Bernardston, police said.

Mizula's vehicle was towed, police said.

* 9:30 a.m. - A bicyclist and car collided on North Pleasant Street, police said. There were no personal injuries reported and no citations issued, but the bicycle sustained heavy damage, according to police.

TRAFFIC

* 1:40 a.m. - A vehicle with a lights violation was stopped on North Pleasant Street and the driver was issued a verbal warning.

* 10:10 a.m. - A transformer blew out and caught on fire on South East Street. Western Massachusetts Electric Co. was notified.

* 5:29 p.m. - A vehicle parked in a no-parking zone on North Pleasant Street was moved before police issued it a ticket.

* 6:10 p.m. - Police issued a citation to the driver of a vehicle operating the vehicle on a pedestrian walkway off North Pleasant Street.

* 10:49 p.m. - A large gathering at an Olympia Drive fraternity was not creating any problems for vehicles passing through the area.

FRIDAY, SEPT. 19

SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY

* 12:59 a.m. - A man who threw a rock at a truck on North Pleasant Street near Governors Drive was gone when police got there.

* 3:53 a.m. - A person using a flashlight in a Longmeadow Drive yard was not located by police.

* 7:07 a.m. - Police were notified that a man got into a Northampton Road home and began knocking on doors. Police determined he was at the wrong home

* 3:05 p.m. - A girl walking on North Pleasant Street told police a college-age man in a vehicle yelled a threat toward her. The man was not located.

* 5:25 p.m. - A woman screaming for help on College Street was not located there or on any nearby streets.

* 10:12 p.m. - Police advised a homeless man sleeping on the front steps of the Unitarian Meetinghouse to move unless he could prove he has permission to be there.

* 11:02 p.m. - Beer was seized from an underage man on North Hadley Road.

CITIZEN ASSISTANCE

* 12:58 a.m. - Police advised 15 people who were overloading a PVTA bus on East Pleasant Street to get off and either wait for another bus or walk home.

* 1:24 a.m. - Police contacted the Amherst Fire Department ambulance after a woman at Southpoint Apartments apparently broke her ankle.

* 3:26 a.m. - A man missing from an Amherst home called his parents to report being in an accident on Route 63. Police were unable to locate the vehicle in the vicinity. Police later determined the accident had occurred on Route 47 in Sunderland.

* 2:50 p.m. - Police helped a woman get her teenage son into a vehicle at a downtown location after he tried to run away and refused to go to Maine for the weekend.

* 10:14 p.m. - A missing car reported at Village Park was located a short time later parked in a different spot from where its owner had said it was parked.

* 11:22 p.m. - A boy missing after going to the high school football game returned an hour later.

DISTURBANCES

* 5:37 p.m. - Police went to Echo Village Apartments to assist a woman whose daughter was throwing a temper tantrum and wouldn't get off the couch.

* 8:12 p.m. - Two women were found arguing at the high school parking lot.

* 9:41 p.m. - A brother and sister arguing over use of a cell phone at The Boulders were calmed down by police.
