AMHERST — Portions of Route 9 in both Amherst and Hadley will be reduced to one lane in alternating directions through May 19.

In Amherst, the lane closure will take place on the section of Northampton Road from University Drive east to South Pleasant Street. The closure will extend weekdays between 7 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. to allow for excavating and paving.

In Hadley, on the section of Russell Street from Middle Street in town center east to East Street, the lane closure will extend weekdays from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. This lane closure, too, is needed for excavating and paving.

Meanwhile, the sidewalk in the area of 197 South Pleasant St. in Amherst is being closed by Daniel O’Connell and Sons Construction as it stages a boom lift throughout May for the construction of the Amherst College Lyceum.

An attendant will be present to have the equipment moved should Americans with Disabilities Act access be required.

A pedestrian detour will otherwise be in place.

During work hours, there will be occasional short durations in which all traffic is stopped.
