SUNDERLAND — One operator was transported to Baystate Franklin Medical Center following a two-car collision at the intersection of Old Amherst Road and Silver Lane shortly after 6 p.m. Saturday.

Yusuf Ahmed, 54, of Sunderland said he was driving his 2008 Honda Civic south on Old Amherst Road when he saw another vehicle, a gray Kia Sorento, traveling quickly down Silver Lane.

Ahmed said that although there is a stop sign at the end of Silver Lane, it became clear to him that the Kia wasn’t stopping. Ahmed slowed his vehicle in response, and the two cars collided.

Ahmed said the Kia rolled before coming to rest near his Honda on the left side of Old Amherst Road. The Kia’s airbags deployed.

Then, Ahmed said the driver of the Kia and two passengers took off running north on Old Amherst Road. The driver later came back, and was transported to Baystate Franklin Medical Center by South County EMS with a head injury.

No information about the second driver’s identity or condition was made available Sunday night.

Both vehicles were towed from the scene by Ernie’s Towing, which is located in Amherst.
