Joseph Horowitz: Trump, GOP must go

Wednesday, August 12, 2020

Professor Richard Bogartz’s recent column (“Silence would be a sin,” July 31) can be summed up in three words: Trump must go. It should be added, however, that the Republican Party must also go. The Republican leadership (Mitch McConnell, Kevin McCarthy, John Thune, etc.) knew very well that Mr. Trump was unqualified and unfit to be president, but they didn’t care.

The GOP has become addicted to money, corporate influence, and power, and is not a serious participant in governing. The Trump administration and its Republican lackeys have been totally irresponsible in their response to the coronavirus pandemic, to climate change, to environmental degradation — the list goes on and on.

Trump’s ignorance of government and his and the Republicans’ denial of scientific knowledge have put the country and planet in danger, and border on crimes against humanity.

Trump must go. The Republican Party must go.
