While John Berkowitz's commentary, "End Ukraine war before it ends us," [Gazette, Dec. 4], makes some interesting points, it is not "Ukraine war" but Russia's war on Ukraine. Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, a sovereign, democratic nation, and subsequent Russian actions from the bombing of hospitals, schools, and cultural institutions, and the killing of innocent civilians are based upon Russia's desire to recreate its imperial dynasty. Russia can, at any time, stop its war on Ukraine and the genocide of Ukrainian people. Without Russia's desire to end its war on Ukraine, however, the war will never end and it is in the national interest of the U.S. and peace-loving nations throughout the world to support Ukraine.
