SOUTH HADLEY — The superintendent of South Hadley Public Schools is out on leave, though district officials won’t say why.
Usually present at every School Committee meeting, Superintendent Jahmal Mosley was absent at the committee’s March 17 meeting and has not appeared in a meeting since. Allison Schlachter, who chairs the town’s School Committee, declined to elaborate on his absence, saying only that he “is out of the office.”
“There’s nothing more that I can say other than yes, the superintendent is out,” Schlachter said in a follow-up interview Thursday. “His office is being covered. I know the central office staff is working really really hard.”
Efforts to reach Mosley by telephone were unsuccessful on Thursday. He has not responded to emails in recent days on his district email address, which does not have an away message set up.
Mark McLaughlin, the district’s assistant superintendent, did not respond to questions sent via email on Thursday.
