Garden report: the black-eyed Susans and daisies have bloomed.

People ask if I have an air conditioner. I do; it’s in the garage. Last year I used a fan three times all summer. So far twice this summer. Since my house has only electric heat, I keep the thermostat at 50 degrees (except when I have company) in the winter. Therefore, it feels good to be warm.

Nikki Beck sent me the schedule for the Ko Fest that runs July 6-Aug. 5 with the theme, Radical Acts. Performance are Friday and Saturday nights and Sunday afternoons at Amherst College.

Amherst College professor and Gazette columnist Ilan Stavans has written a solo piece that he will perform July 13-15.
