Garden report: The forget-me-nots have bloomed, the Solomon Seal is ready to flower, the sunflower and zinnia seeds had sprouted in pots in front of the sliding glass doors. I am still waiting for the radishes that I planted outdoors to sprout. They usually do in a week but are behind.

Cinco de Mayo greetings to all our Mexican friends and neighbors.

Mother’s Day greetings to all those who look after children.

Profuse apologies. I forgot to mention real estate taxes were due May 2. If I didn’t have a bill due May 1, I would have forgot myself. I hope everyone paid on time.

I received an email from Henry Lappen of the Amherst Shade Tree Committee about the inaugural Tree Tour of Amherst, on Sunday, May 8, Mother’s Day, to showcase the beautiful, special and unusual trees in Amherst. He wrote that the tour starts at 2 p.m. at the Jones Library. The walk is free and open to the public.

He also wrote that the monthly second Saturday tree planting will be held May 14 from 9 a.m. to noon along Country Corners Road near Atkins. Volunteers are welcome!

The Senior Center will hold an open house Wednesday, May 11, from 1-3 p.m., according to Haley Bolton, senior services director. She said the event includes a number of the center’s partner agencies and other town departments to showcase all that the Senior Center has to offer. In addition there will be food, music and a raffle.

It’s free but let her know you are coming so there is enough food. Call 259-3690 to RSVP.

It was good news in the paper to read that Pomeroy Lane will be repaved from South East Street to West Street. The road is a major route for the Munson Library, Fiddler’s Green (the South Amherst Common) South Church, Andy’s Greenhouse and the route to the malls from South and East Amherst.

Artist Nancy Meagher will have her art exhibit, “Cold Water and Millicent” on view at Gallery A3 from May 5-28. The gallery is open Thursday-Sunday, from 3-7 p.m.
