Indoor garden report: The amaryllis bulb that was in the refrigerator has a leaf that is 17 inches long. However, the bulb that was not refrigerated has a leaf that is 30 inches long. So far, no blossom buds.

It’s Girl Scout cookie time. The new flavor is raspberry rally. For selling sites visit gs cwm.org. Click on “cookie” and then enter your ZIP code.

The days are getting longer. We now have 9½ hours of daylight and are past the halfway point of January. Looking ahead, one supermarket has St. Patrick’s Day decorations out already. Of course, they are next on to the Valentine’s Day decorations. Great color combination.

The Mill District General Store and Local Art Gallery will have a Quarterly Art opening Friday, Jan. 27 from 5 to 7 p.m. All the current works are removed and a new batch of artists are featured. Free and refreshments are provided.

Reminder: The Amherst Community Theater production of the “Little Mermaid” begins this weekend at Bowker Auditorium on the UMass campus.The papers have provided some wonderful coverage and the production values look fabulous.

The reminder is if you want tickets for the second weekend, reserve them now. Once people see it the first weekend word gets out and the second weekend can sell out.
