Reminder: Change your clocks Saturday night so that you will be ready for the new daylight saving time time Sunday morning.

In good news, we have over 11 hours of daylight now. Commuting is now done completely in the light, no headlights needed.

March 14, 3.14, is Pi Day. For those of us who enjoy sweet and savory food, it is also known as pie day. Think apple, blueberry and quiche. I know lard isn’t used much anymore, but it did make the best crust.

It’s all George Gershwin tunes. I saw the show on Broadway years ago with Matthew Broderick and Kelly O’Hare. It is splendid. You will leave the theater humming.

Nicky Reyes, the son of Mary Carey of Amherst and Paul Reyes of Belchertown, and his band Gummy Fang will be playing on March 12 at the famous South by Southwest festival in Austin this year, according to an email from Mary. The band plays indie rock.

He got his start with the Jazz Ensemble at ARHS.

Mary wrote that Nicky has arranged an unofficial concert coinciding with the festival to benefit the Texas Prison Education Initiative. It’s affiliated with the University of Texas at Austin, where Nicky teaches math, and provides free college credit classes for incarcerated women at the prison, where he’s a volunteer teacher in Lockhart.

I went to the pancake breakfast, the opening event for Leverett’s 250th birthday Saturday. The school cafeteria was quite full. I saw some old friends and met some new ones. You could post comments on this huge scroll that will keep unfolding as the signatures and designs fill up the space.

Thanks to the Leverett firefighters for hosting the breakfast.

The large wooden birthday cake was parked in the field. It is impressive.
